REGULAR MEETING OF TEE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDAe
TUESDAY EVENING, JULY 2ND, 1929.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Vice-president Calcutt occupying
the chair in the absence of Mayor Schaefer.
The roll was called an Councilmen Brodersen, Henning, Latham and Calcutt
(4) were noted present. Absent: President Schaefer, (1).
Mr. Latham.moved that City Attorney Locke be appointed to serve as clerk
pro tem in the absence of City Clerk W. E. Varcoe, seconded by Mr. Henning
and carried.
The minutes of the regular meeting of June 18th were read, after which
it was moved that the minutes be corrected as follows: On page 41, line
6 of paragraph 22, substitute a comma for the period and add the words "and
carried unanimously". The motion to correct the minutes prevailed, whereupon
it was moved that they be approved as corrected.
Ur. Latham moved that the action taken last meeting with regard to amend-
ments to the city charter be reconsidered, secohded by Mr. Brodersen and carried,
after which it was moved that A committee be appointed on charter amendments in
accordance with the original motion, passed June 4th, 1929. Seconded and carried.
Mr. Latham introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1387.
Transferring 900.00 from the Electric Light Fund
to the General Fund."
Mr. Brodersen seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
Mr. Henning introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution "To. 1388.
Transferring 07042.43 from the Electric Light Fund
to the General Fund."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it s
adopted and passed unanimously.
The Clerk announced that since the last meeting of the Council the follow-
ing documents had been filed:
Affidavit of publication. of the delinquent tax list.
Notice of Hearing before the Railroad Commission.
8. Title Insurance policy to a portion of the golf course property.

From The Alameda Improvement Club, relative to the industrial lands border-
ing along the south training wall. Mr. Latham moved that the matter be referred
to the City :anager for investigation and report, seconded by Ur. Calcutt and
carried.
10.1 7rom the Vestern Central Improvement Club of Oakland, commending the council
on its attitude relative to the transportation problem. Ordered filed.
i1.V From S. J. Dowling, relative to an alleged dilapidated building on Bay
Island Avenue. Also report from Building Inspector Rogers thereon. The occupant
of the building also made a statement to the council. Mr. Henning moved that
the matter be referred to the City Iianager, seconded by Mr. Brodersen and carried.
12. From the Board of public Utilities, stating that they were preparing plans
and specifications relative to the street lights on park Street. The communication
was ordered filed.

From the City Attorney, relative to the question of filing an app ion
before the railroad commission for removal of the street cars and substitution of
a bus line runeing as far as E. 14th Street. After considerable discussion, the
city attorney was instructed to file an application with the Railroad Commission
regardless of any legal questions involved.
A hearing was held relative to an alleged dilapidated building at 1914
Sebster Street. Building Inspector Rogers reported the condition of the building
and. stated that it was unfit for human habitation or restoration. The Building
Inspector was instructed to continue the proceedings for tts removal.
The following ordinances came up for passage:-

After discussion, Mr.Latham moved that the matter lay over until the next
meeting and that the 701%7 :Manager, be instructed to prepare a map showing
the limits, seconded by Mr. Brodersen and carried.

A motion prevailed referring the ordinance back to the city attorney for
changes.

(South Side of Central Avenue, 238.47 feet west
of Broadway.,
"Ordinance No.

Reclassifying property.
(North side of Briggs Avenue, 400 feet East of
High Street.)
The above ordinancesrelative to the reclassification of property were,
by agreement, continued until the next regular meeting.
The following ordinance was introduced and laid over under a provision
of the Charter:-
"Ordinance No.
New Series.--
Authorizing and Providing for a Lease of Approxi-
mately 68 acres of Tide Lands on the desterly
eaterfront of the City of Alameda, to Alameda Airport,
Inc., for use as a Harbor for Boats and Other Craft
and In Conjunction with the Airport now Being Con-
ducted by said Corporation."
The Council's attention was called to the desirability of constructing
a road along the northern line of the university property recently zoned for
airport purposes, and, upon motion of Mr. Latham seconded by Mr. Henning, the
matter s referred to the City Managerwith instructions to look into the
question and report back to the council at its next meeting.
Claims against the General Departments amounting to $1850.00; police
Department, 038.16; Fire Department $39.00; Street Department, 02151.35;
Health Department, 128.54; Recreation Department, 0478.75; Golf Course Depart
ment, $848.23; Store Department, $72.68; and Pension Fund, $1181.08 having
been approved and audited by the proper officials were listed by the Clerk
as follows:

Mr. Latham moved that the claims as listed be paid, seconded by Mr.
Brodersen and on roll call carried unanimously.
A communication was received from the City Clerk requesting permission
to take his annual vacation and upon motion of Mr. Brodersen, seconded by Mr.
Latham the request was granted.
There being no further business to transact the Council adjourned to
meet in regular session Tuesday evening, July 16th, 1929, at 8 o'clock.
