1929-07-30 Regular CC MinutesADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL 'OF THE CITY
OF ALAMEDA, TUESDAY EVENING, JULY 30, 1929.
The-meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council resident Schaefer
presiding.
The roll was called and'Oouncilmen Brodersen, Calcutt, Henning,
Latham ai president Schaefer (5) were noted present. Absent: None.
A Communication was received from E. K. Taylor, relative to the-propoaed
yacht Harbor on Alameda pier. Ordered filed. The Council was then addressed
b37 Messra.-Stone, Brampton, Fish,,plummer, French, Thaw, and King, all faVering
the contemplated lease to the Alameda Airport, Inc., as it pertains to a Yacht
Harbor. No one addressed the council in opposition. Mr. CalcUtt moved that
action by the council on the proposed ordinance granting the lease be:laid
over until the next regular meeting -of the council. The motion was seconded by
Mr. Latham and carried.
A communiction was received from Mrs. Alice Caton, calling attention
to a dangerous hole of the Beach at Jashington park. After discussion, Mr.
Brodersen moved that Alameda park Company, owners of Neptune Beach, be ordered
to erect a series of driven piles at intervals of not more than fifty' feet
apart, around the perimeter of the dredged hole, and that upon each pile
there be erected a warning sign, and that between the piles there be erected
either a fence or cable, or a series of cables, adequate to prevent children
or others from falling into the hole. The motion was seconded by Mr. Henning
and carried unanimously.
A communication was read from City Manager Hickok relative to liability
insurance. After discussion, Mr. Latham moved that the specifications presented
by the City Manager as amended be adoptedlend that the City Clerk be instructed to
advertise for bids, covering such insurance, seconded by Mr. Calcutt and on roll
call carried unanimously.
City Manager Hickok drew attention to the proposed traffic signs on Santa
Clara Avenue,and after discussion, Mr. Calcutt moved that the signs submitted
at a cost of $12.50 each be purchased. The motion was seconded by Mr. Latham
and on roll call carried unanirnouslv.
Mr. Latham moved that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare suitable
resolutions of commendation upon the retirement of Gus C. Wagner from the Fire
Department. The motion was seconded by Mr. Brodersen and carried unanimously.
There being no further business to transact the Council adjourned to meet
in regular meeting Tuesday evening, August 6th, 1929, at 8 o'clock.
