InresponsetoCouncilmemberdeHaan'sinquiry,theFireMarshall statedfireinspectionfeesarebasedonanhourlyrateanddonot have100%cost recoverYi currently,abusinessfireinspectionfee is$77.50;fullcostrecoverywouldbeapproximately$148. MayorJohnsonquestionedwhetherBuildingstaffshouldperform inspectionsinsteadoffirefightersistatedbusinessownershave complainedaboutinspectionfees;theproposedincreasewould resultinmorecomplaints. TheFireMarshallstatedtheFireDepartmentusescivilian inspectors,whichlowerstheexpense. MayorJohnsonquestionedwhatthecostwouldbeifBuildingstaff performedinspections. MayorJohnsoninquiredwhatisthecollectionrateonambulance service. CouncilmemberMatarreserespondedthereportnotesthecollection ratewas51%in2007andexcludesMedicareandMedi-Calwriteoffs. CouncilmemberGilmoreinquiredwhenwasthelasttimeambulance feeswereraised. TheCityManagerrespondedrateswererestructuredbytheCounty lastyear. MayorJohnsonstatedCouncilneedstoknowthecostrecoveryfor ambulanceservice. TheFireChiefstatedthecollectionrateisapproximately85%if MedicareandMedi-Calaretakenoutasnon-collectibles;new revenueanticipatesa50%collectionrate.
