1930-12-16 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING, DECEMBER 16Th, 1930.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Vice - president Calcutt presiding,
due to the absence of President Schaefer.
The roll was called and Councilmen Brodersen, Calcutt, Henning and Latham
were noted present. Absent: Council- president Schaefer, (1).
The minutes of the regular meeting of December 2nd, 1930 were approved
as read.

Tappan addressed the council requesting permission to keep the
locked and also, that the city laboratory be moved in order
this room as a Judge's chambers. The matter was referred
of the Whole for consideration.
In the matter of the further hearing of protests re improvement of Third
Street, Mr. Brodersen moved that the hearing be continued to January 6th, 1931.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Latham and carried unanimously.
.R OLUTION:
3 Mr. Latham introducxd and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1564.
Transferring $2000.00 from the General Fund
to the Street Improvement Fund."
Mr. Brodersen seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it
was adopted and passed unanimously.
The Clerk presented to the council a Resolution adopting a Resolution of
Intention for the construction of a concrete sidewalk on the north side of
Pacific Avenue, commencing at a point three hundred and eight feet easterly
from the east line of Third Street. Mr. Brodersen moved that action upon this
Resolution be postponed until the regular meeting to be held Tuesday evening,
February 17th, 1931, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.

The Clerk stated that since the last meeting of the council the follow-
ing papers had been filed.
Copy of deed to United States Government re Army Air Base.
Option re purchase of Mazzini property.
Option re purchase of Powell property.
Communication from City Manager re printing annual report- ex. Committee
of Whole.
COMMUNICATIONS:
The following communication were received:-

From First Church of Christ, Scientist, re parking of automobiles in
front of church reading room. Mr. Latham moved that the communication be re-
ferred to the City Manager to report back. The motion was seconded by Mr.
Brodersen and carried unanimously.
From the City Manager, containing report relative to heavy trucking
on Lincoln Avenue, between Pearl Street and Broadway. The communication was
ordered filed.
From Philander B. Beadle, relative to weed removal charge of $5.22.
Mr. Henning moved that the council deny the refund requested, inasmuch as same
was, as per statement of the City Attorney, a legal charge. The motion was
seconded by Mr. Brodersen and carried unanimously.
From the City Planning Commission recommending the reclassification of
certain property on the northeast corner of Santa Clara Avenue and Everett
Street. Mr. Latham moved that the recommendation of the City Planning Commission
be adopted, seconded by Mr. Henning and same carried unanimously.
From the Alameda Golf Commission, requesting an appropriation of $250.00
for the Alameda Golf Club tournament to be held in May, 1931. Mr. Latham moved
that the request be referred to the Publicity and Convention Committee for their
report, seconded by Mr. Henning and carried unanimously.
From Donald 'K. Quayle, relative to claim of George F.
Kincaid in amount of $500.00 for removal and destruction of an

From the Alameda Housewives League relative to relief in the matter of
water bills for unemployed people. Mr. Henning moved that the matter be referred
to the City Manager for immediate action, seconded by Mr. Brodersen and carried
unanimously.

From the Alameda Housewives League, relative to use of city jail for
boy offenders. Mr. Latham moved that the matter be referred to the City
Attorney for investigation and to report back to the council his findings and
as to the age of the boy in question, seconded by Mr. Henning and carried
unanimously.
From the City Manager recommending the approval of the application
Of George H. Noble to move a house from the northeast corner of Everett Street
and Santa Clara Avenue to a vacant lot on the south side of Webb Avenue,
'fifty feet east of the fire house. Mr. Henning moved that the recommendation
Of the City Manager be adopted, providing that Mr. Noble conforms to provious mo-
tion relative to submission of a photograph of the house to be moved. The motion
was seconded by Mr.Latham and carried unantmously.
From D. B. Waugh, relative to placing Christmas tree lights on the
Taylor eucalyptus tree. Mr. Henning moved that the City Manager be instructed
to have same decorated at a cost not to exceed $500.00. The motion was second-
ed by Mr. Latham and on roll call carried unanimously.
INGS:
An application for a soft drink license was received from Joseph Corica.
Mr. Latham introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 1565.
Granting a Permit for a License to Sell SOft
Drinks ."
Mr. Henning seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
'adopted and passed unanimously.
