1932-02-09 Regular CC MinutesADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING, FEBRUARY 9TH, 1932.
The meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock by Deputy City Clerk, Hazel
D. Tearle, who presided in the absence of a presiding officer.
1. The Clerk called the roll of the three remaining members of the Council
and Councilmen Leydecker and Murray, (2) were noted present. Absent: Councilman
Schaefer, (1).
2. The Clerk then stated that there was not a quorum present.
statement of appointment
A/ signed by both Councilmen Leydecker and Murray was then pre-
sented by Mr. Leydecker to the Clerk with the request that it be read. The statement read
that inasmuch as Councilmen Leydecker and Murray constituted the
majority of the remaining councilmen pursuant to the provisions of the Charter of
the City of Alameda that Councilman William F. Murray be appointed as President
of the Council and to the office of Mayor, to perform immediately the duties
required of said official by law.
4.V Complying with the opinion of the City Attorney that such action was
legal the Clerk then administered the oath of office to Mr. Murray, who then
stated his first official act would be to name two councilmen to fill the vacancies now
existing on the Council, whereupon he named Mr. Charles B. Morris and Mr. James
M. Shanly. Mr. Morris being present,was sworn in by the Clerk, and took a seat
at the Council table.
5. The Council then convened and upon roll call Councilmen Leydecker, Morris
and President Murray (3) were noted present. Absent: Councilman Schaefer, (1).
6. Mr. Leydecker moved that the following claims as listed be paid, and
consideration of further business by the Council be postponed, seconded by
Mr. Morris and on roll call carried unanimously.
