ALAMEDA, TUESDAY EVENING, AUGUST 23, 1932.
The meeting convened at 8:00 o'clock with President Murray-presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Leydecker, Morris, Schaefer, Shanly and President
Murray (5) were noted present. Absent: None.
Mr, Schaefer moved that the reading of the minutes of the regular meeting of August 16th,
1932 be dispensed with at this time, due to the fact that this was an adjourned meeting, seconded
by CounciIman'Morris and carried.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIQNS:
From Hollywood Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, requesting donation
of 4100.00 to'help defray expenses of building a dahlia float to`be entered in a parade to be held
during the National Encampment of the organization at Sacramento, California on August 26th to
September 3rd, 1932. Mr. Leydecker moved that the request be granted, seconded by Mr. ."Shanly and
on roll call carried unanimously.
From the City Manager, recommending that the offer received from Mr. R.U. Strehlow, Jr.,
for rental of concessions and bath house at Washington Park, be accepted. Mr. Schaefer moved that
the City Attorneyenter into a rental agreement with Mr. Strehlow, seconded by Mr. Shanly and on
roll call carried unanimously.
3. From the Alameda Improvement Club, in reference to proposed charter amendments concerning
consolidation'of certain City and County offices, also letter from the Taxpayers League of Alameda/
on the same subject. There being no objection, the communications were referred to the Charter
Committee, when appointed.
From the Alameda Improvement Club, in reference to the improving and widening of
Webster eet. There being no objection, the communication was referred to the City Manager.
/ 5.1 From Belle Lisle, offerring to the City of Alameda, for purchase, certain tide lands.
V There being no objection, the communication was ordered filed.
6.1 From the Northern California Conference of 7th Day Adventists, requesting permission to
solicit funds in the City of Alameda between August 10th and November 30, 1932. On motion of
Mr. Leydecker, seconded by Mr. Morris, the permission was granted by a unanimous vote of the Council.
From the League of California Municipalities, in reference to gasoline tax and utility
rate service. There being no objection, communications were ordered-filed.
8. From Holdal and Richardson, Certified Public Accountants, enclosing report of audit of

a the books of the City of Alameda for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1932. There being no objection,
the audit was ordered filed.

9. 1 From Pacific States Savings and Loan Company, also Alameda citizens, also Bank of America,
against the discontinuance of bus service between High Street and Encinal Avenue and Bay Farm
Island. There being no objection these communications were ordered referred to the City Manager
for attention and to report back to the Council.
10./ From the East Bay Labor Journa ,asking for subscriptions of 4100.00 for advertising.
\/ August 20th, being the last date on which copy could have been received, the communication Was

11J From Alameda Parlor No. 170 Native Sons of the Golden West also Encinal Parlor No. 156,
requesting the City of Alameda to enter a float in the Admission Day Parade, to be held in San Francisco
on the 9th day of September. Mr. Leydecker moved that the request be granted, and the communica-
tions be referred to the City Manager with power to act, at an expenditure not to exceed 4150.00,
seconded by Mr.Schaefer and on roll call carried unanimously.
12. From the City Manager, recommending that the City of Alameda,. at the expense of 4100.00,
purchase a page in the Oakland Tribune Year Book for 1933. On motion of Mr. Schaefer, seconded by
Mr. Shanly, the recommendation was adopted and on roll call carried unanimously.
UNFINISEED BUSDIESS:
13.i From the City Manager, approving the recommendation of the City Planning Commission, that
the petition for reclassification of property situated on the northwest corner of Park and Central
Avenues from Class III to Class V, be denied and that the property be retained in Class III.
Mr. Schaefer moved that the recommendation of the City Manager be adopted, seconded by Mr. Morris
and carried unanimously.
14.i Fran the City Manager approving the recommendation of the City Planning Commission, that
parking of automobiles on the north side of Clinton Avenue for a distance of approximately 200 feet,
west of Willow Street, be abolished. Mr. Shanly moved that the recommendation be adopted, seconded
by Mr. Leydecker and carried unanimously.
15./ From the City Manager, referring to a petition

granted to the Unemployed Citizens League, covering the operation of a skating rink at 1217
Lincoln Avenue. On roll call, the motion carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Shanly moved that Mr. Chas. E.Cockshe appointed a member of the Police and Fire
Board of Appeals, seconded by-Mr. Leydecker and carried unanimously.
18.
FILING:
The Clerk stated that since the last meeting the following had been filed:
Release of Claim for damages and for trespass and destruction of property, from George F. and
Elizabeth Kincaid.
19. There being no further business to transact, the Council adjourned to meet in regular
session, Tuesday Evening, September 6th, 1932 at 8:00 o'clock P.M.
