TUESDAY EVENING, MARCH 18, 1924.
The meeting convened at 8 P. M. with Council-president Otis presiding.
The roll was called and. Councilmen Adams, Latham, Probst, Tilden and. President
Otis were noted present. Absent: None.
The minutes of the regular meeting of March 4, 1924 were approved as read.
The minutes of the special meeting of March 17, 1924 were approved as read.
Mr. Latham introduce. and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 730.
Creating Position of Social Worker and Fixing
Salary Thereof."
Mr. Probst seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.
2./ Mr. Latham introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 731.
Fixing Salary of Health Visitor."
Mr. Probst seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.
Mr. Probst introduced and moved the adoption of
"Resolution No. 732.
Providing Compensation of Industrial Accident
Physician."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.
The following were received:
Continuation Certificate on bond of H. P. Wichmann, Bookkeeper, Municipal
Light Plant. Ordered filed..
5,J Continuation certificate on bond of Arthur D. Goldsworthy, Office Manager,
Municipal Electric Light Plant. Ordered filed.
6.4 Oath of office of E. C. Mills as Police Officer. Ordered filed.
7.1 Oath of office of Wm. Sanday as special police officer, for School Department.
Ordered filed.
The following communications were received:
8.V From the Superb() Water Heater Company regarding installation of water heater
in new fire house. Ordered filed.
From National Lumber mens' Association, re Convention. Ordered filed.
10.1 From Wm. J. Locke, regarding Southern Pacific Company franchises. Mr. Tilden
moved that the communication be referred to a meeting of the Committee of the Whole,
seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
From the Alameda Safety Council re parking of autos on Park Street. Ordered
filed.

The Clerk stated that he was in receipt of a petition purported to be signed by
forty.-nine park street merchants and businessmen, protesting against the proposed
parallel parking of automobiles on Park Street. Mr. Latham moved that the petition

March 19 1924.
The Clerk.stated that he was in receipt of a petition purported to be
signed by two hundred and eighty-five residents of the City of Alameda, request-
ing the Council to give consideration to the acquisition of a city park large
enough to contain nUblic golf links. Mr. H. P. Martine was present and addressed
the Council. After discussion, Mr. Latham moved that the matter be referred
to the City Manager for proper investigation as to sites, costs, successes of
public golf links in other communities, etc., and to report back to the meeting
of the Council to be held April 15, 1924, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried.
A Bill entitled

came up for passage and was read by the Clerk. Mr. Latham moved that the
Ordinance be referred to a meeting f the Committee of the Whole, seconded by
Mr. Adams and carried.
Claims against the General Departments amounting to U903.27; against
the Fire Department amounting to $1145.04; against the Street Department
amounting to $3507.63; against the Health Department amounting to $174.61;
against the Recreation Department amounting to $1079.96; Store Department
amounting to 0.04; against the Electric Light Fund amounting to $12,695.46
having been approved and audited by the proper officials were listed by
the Clerk as follows:

on roll call carried unanimously.

Latham and, carried.
There being no further business to transact the Council adjourned to meet
