1923-01-22 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR METING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAbiEDA, TUESDAY EVENING, JANUARY 2ND, 1923 The meeting convened at 8:15 o'clock with Council-president Otis presiding. The roll was Called and. Councilmen Adams, Latham, Probst Tilden and Presi- dent Otis, (5) were noted. present. Absent: None. The minutes of the regular meeting of December 19, 1922 were approved as read.. The following were received: 1/ Affidavit of Publication of notice to Bidder, re Health Center Building. Ordered filed. 2■( Copy of lease between James Robertson and the City of Alameda. Ordered filed. 3■( mr. Probst introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption: "Resolution to. 582. Transferring $2350.70 from the Electric Light Fund to the General Fund." Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. 4v Mr. Probst introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 583 Cancelling the Assessment and Taxes on Lots 17 and 18 in the Eastern one-half of Bloek C, in "Lands Adjacent to the Town of Encinal"." Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. 5vr Mr. Probst introduced the following fo1iowin Resolution and moved its adoption: "Resolution to. 584. Providing for Election Officers." Mr. Tilden seconded the motion to adept the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. 6e; Mr. Probst introduced the foliowing Resolution and moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 585, Confirming Charges on Concrete Curbing." Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was a- dopted and passed unanimoesly. The foliowing communications were received: 7v From the American Dredging Company, relative to sufficiency of the 5,000 bond on file with the City covering dredging permit. Mr. Tilden moved that the matter be referred to the City Attorney with power to act, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried. From the Northwestern Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police, re Convention. Ordered filed. From G. Van Booskirk, representing Grace Tabernacle of Oakland, requesting permission to use the tent opposite Webb Avenue fire house for one or two woeks for a series of gospel_ meetings. Mr. Tilden moved that the matter .0 U 1 January 2nd, 1923. From WO. J. Locke, City Attorney, requesting the Council to pass suitable resolutions to the Legislature concerning amendments to the present Subway Act. Mr. Latham introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:- eolution No. 586. Memorializing Legisl ature to Change Bubway Act." Mr. Probst aeeoncieci the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. The Clerk stated that he was in receipt of a petition for the reel fication of the property situated at 1122 Grand Street to a Class 11 District; that notices had been posted in accordance with Ordinance No. 144, New Series, and amendments thereto, and that no objections had been received. Mr. Shannon present in the Council Chamber representing the petitioner. There being no objectors present, Mr. Probst ihtroduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption: "Resolution FO • 587. Reclassifying the Property Situato� at 1122 Grand Street, to a Class II, Residence District." Mr. Latham seconded, the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. I2V The Clerk stated that he was in receipt of a petition for the reclassifi- cation of the property situated at 1817 Sherman Street to a Class II District; that notices had been posted in accordance with Ordinance No. 144, New Series, and amendments thereto, and that no objections had been received. kr. Thurber, the petitioner was present in the Council Chamber. There being no objectors present, Mr. Probst introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 588. Reclassifying the property Situated at 1817 Sherman Street to a Class II, Residence District." Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. In the matter of the hearing on the opening of Versailles Avenue, der Resolution of Intention No, 65, New Series, Mr. Probst moved that the hearing be continued until the regular meeting of the Council to be held February 6, 1923, seconded by Mr. Tilden and carried. 141 A Bill entitled "A Bill For Ordinance No. New Series. "A Bill January 2nd, 1923. was introduced and laid over under a provision of the Charter. 161 In the matter of the hearing of the delapidated building at 541 Santa Clara Avenue, the City Clerk reporting for the Building Inspector, Stated that steps were noW,being undertaken to remodel the building. Thereupon hi. Probst moved that, further action be postponed. until the first meeting in March, 1923 seconded by Mr. Latham and carried. 17V Mr. Latham moved that the City Manager be instructed to establish the official grade of Webster Street and report back to the Council at its nt, meeting, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried. 18' Mr. Latham moved that the City Manager be instructed to prepare an estimate as tp the cost of raising Webster Street to the official grade and to report back to the Council at its next meeting, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried. Claims against the General Departments amounting to $2847.45; against the Police Department amounting to $43.66; against the Fire Department amounting to $1203.79; against the Street Department amounting to $1458.29; against the Health Department amounting to $181.53; against the Recreation Department amounting to $273.62; against the Store Department amounting to $ 8.82; against the Council Relief Fund amounting to $141.20; against the Police Pension Fund amounting to $482.50; against the Fire Pension Fund amounting to 0170.00; against the Electric Light Fund amounting to $4703.59; against the Health Center Fund amounting to $9.78; and against the Public Use Fund amounting to $2057.27 having been approved and audited by the proper officials were listed by the Clerk as follows: Labor Alameda Times Star Alameda Furniture Co.
