REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA,
TUESDAY EVE ING, MAY 1ST, 1923.
The meeting convened at 8:00 P. M. with Council—president Otis presiding.
The roll was called and. Councilmen Adams, Latham, Probst and President
Otis, (4), were noted present. Absent: Councilman Tilden, (1).
In the absence of City Clerk a. E. Varcoe, Mr. Latham moved that Miss
Hazel Dudgeon be appointed. City Clerk pro tem, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried.
The minutes of the regular meeting of April 17, 1923 were approved as
read.
11 Mr. Probst introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No 633
Transferring $2,296.06 from the Electric Light
Fund. to the General Fund."'
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
The following were received:
Copy of contract and specifications; from Oarl E. Strom, re Health
Center :Building. Ordered filed.
3', Copy of contract and specifications from J. E. O'Mara and. N. D. Stewart
re Health Center Building. Ordered filed.
4 4 Copy of contract and specifications from Raphael Zelinsky, re Health
Center Building. Ordered filed.

Copy of contract and specifications from Wm. Makin, re Health Center
Building. Ordered filed.
Grant of Easement from the Southern Pacific and. Central Pacific Companies
to the City of Alameda, re Versailles Avenue opening. Ordered filed.
Oath of office of Mrs. Helen A. Cross, as a member of the Board of
Education. Ordered filed.
8J Oath of office of Hermann Krusi, as a member of the Board of Public
Utilities. Ordered filed.
: Report of the Municipal Electric Light Plant for the months of December
1922 and January, 1923. Ordered filed.
The following communications were received:
0 From the Alameda Improvement Club, regarding various matters. Mr. Latham
moved °chat all matters contained therein be referred to the City Manager and that
the City Clerk be instructed to answer that portion of the letter opposing the
naval base election to be held on May 8, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried;
From the Mayor, Auditor and City Manager, regarding count of money
in city treasury. Ordered filed.

From Oakland. Local Union No. 875, United. Brotherhood of Carpenters and.
Joiners endorsing tube under Estuary. Mr. Latham moved that the communication
be filed and that the City Clerk acknowledge receipt of same, seconded by MT.
Probst and carried.

Annie McCarthy, representing the owner, addressed the Council and asked that
she be granted time to communicate with the owner regarding the disposal of the
two buildings in question. Mr. Probst moved that further hearing be continued until
the regular meeting of the Council to be held June 5, 1923, seconded by Mr. Latham
and carried.
147 In the matter of the hearing on the delapidated building at 2324-2326 Lincoln
Avenue, Building Inspector Mailiot offered for filing his affidavit of posting
and mailing Notice to Abate Nuisance. Mr. W. A. Conneau,the owner, was present.
After discussion, Mr. Probst moved that the matter lay over to the next regular
meeting of the Council to be held. May 15, 1923, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
15V Mr. Probst introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 634.
Refunding Taxes Erroneously Collected."
Mr. Ad.anis seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
16/ Mr. Probst introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 635.
To Reclassify Property on Council's Initiative."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call carried
unanimously.
17 Mr. Wm. Henning presented to the council a petition signed by a number of
property owners in the vicinity of the southwest corner of Fountain and Jackson
Streets, asking the council to declare a nuisance the big trees standing on this
corner, and giving their reasons for the request. Mr. Latham moved that the petition
be received and filed and that the same be referred to the City Manacrer with power
to act, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried..

came up for passage and was read by the Clerk. Mr. Latham moved that the ordinance
be adopted, seconded by Mr. Probst and on roll call carried unanimously.

Claims against the General Departments amounting to $1246.03; against the
Police Department amonnting to $188.81; against the Fire Department amounting to
$290.13; against the Street Department amounting to $1828.82; against the Health
Department amounting to 140.89; against the Recreation Department amounting to
$953.73; a:inst the Electric Light Pund amounting to $1897.00; against the Council
Relief Fund amountinz to $154.56: against the Initiative Relief Fund amountinre to
Mar 1st, 1923.
