TUESDAY EVIZING, SEPTEMBER 18, 1923.
The meeting convened at 8 o'clock with Council-president Otis presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Adams, Latham,Probst, Tilden and.
President Otis, (5), were noted present Absent: None.
The minutes of'the regular meeting of September 4, 1923 were approved
as read.
Mr. Latham introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 670.
Determining the Rate and. Levying the Tax
1923-24."
Mr. Probst seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed by the following vote, to wit: es: Councilmen Adams,
Latham, Probst, Tilden and. President Otis, (5). Noes: None. Absent: None.
Mr. Otis requested to be excused, thereupon Vice-president Probst assumed
the chair.
3. Mr. Tilden introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:

Fixing Salaries of the following Officers and
Employees of the City of Alameda, to wit: The
Deputy Auditor, Deputy Assessor, Assistant Deputy
Assessor, Stenographer to Auditor and Assessor,
Building Inspector, ,Assistant Building Inspector,
City Attorney, Stenographer to the City Attorney,
City Clerk, Stenographer to the City Clerk,
Custodian of the City Hall, City Manager, Seore-
tary to the City Manager, Stenographer to the City
Manager, Stenographer to the City Council, Health
Officer, Veterinarian and. Food Inspector, Sanitary
Inspector, Bacteriologist, Clerk of Health Depart-
ment, Health Visitor, Superintendent of Recreation
and. Parks, Head. Gardener of Recreation and Parks,
Gardeners, Play Direotors, Superintendent of Streets
and. City Engineer, Clerk of Street Department,
Assistant City Engineer, Foreman of Street Department
and. Deputy Treasurer and Tax Collector."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed by the following vote, to wit: Ayes: Council n Adus, Lath
Tildenand Vice-president Probst, (4). Noes: None. Absent: Council-president
Otis (1).
Mr. Adams introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
Resolution No. 672.
Pixing the Salaries of the Officers and. Members
of the Police and. Fire Departments of the City
of Alameda."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it
adopted and passed by the following vote, to wit: Ayes: Councilmen Adams,
Latham, Tilden and Vice-president Probst, (4). Noes: None. Absent: Council-
president Otis, (1).
The Clerk offered for filing the budget of the City of Alameda for the
fiscal year 1923-1924. Ordered filed.
The Clerk read a petition which ha_a_ been filed with him by residents
and owners of prorerty in the vicinity of Franklin Park, requesting the Council
September 18, 1923.
Mr. Latham moved that the City Manager be instructed to design and
estimate the cost Of a salt water system for fire fighting purposes and to submit
same to the Council, with a view of bonding the city to pay for its con-
struction, seconded by Mr. Tilden and carried.
Claims airist the General Departments amounting to $335.72; against the
Police Department amounting to $199.38; against the Fire Department amounting
to 227.54; .;inst the Street Department amounting to $2809.44; against the
Health Department amounting to $94.10; against the Recreation Department ount-
ing to $240.46; against the Store Department amounting to $4.41; against the Goun
oil Relief Fund amounting to $172.99; against the Electrie Light Fund amounting
to $10,943.60 and against the Health Center Building Fund amounting to $1575.00
having been approVed and audited by the proper officials were listed by the
Clerk as follows:
