1921-01-04 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALIUtEDA, TUESDAY EVENING, JANUARY 4, 1921. The meeting convened at 8.10 p. m. with Council-president Otis presiding. The roll was called and Councilmen Adams, Latham, Probst, Tilden and President Otis, (5) were noted present. The minutes of the regular meeting of December 21st, 1920, were approved as read. Mr. W. G. Cohen was in the council lobby and President Otis3 asked if he wished to address the council. Mr. Cohen stated that the purpose of his visit was to equest the council to take steps to order the installation of five globes and electric lights on Fernside Boulevard, principally at Fern- side Station, claiming that the station was used by a great many people in that vicinity and that at the present time it is in total darkness. Mr. Latham moved that the matter be referred to the city manager with the request that he take steps to have lights installed as soon as possible as per Mr. Cohen's re- quest, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried. Mr. Latham introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 357. Transferring i1615.82 from the Electric Light Fund to the General Fund." Mr. Probst seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. Mr. Latham introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 358. Providing for Compensation to Dr. Hieronymus for Serving as Physician in Industrial Accident Cases." Mr. Adams seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously* The following communications were received: From the American Legion, Alameda Post No. 9, inviting the mayor and council to be present at the installation ceremonies to be held at Moose Hall, Tuesday evening, January 4th, 1921. Mr. Latham moved that the invitiation be accepted and as many of the council who could possibly attend should do so, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried. An application was received from Arthur L. Be 326 40th Street, Oakland for a gratuitous license to sell dried prunes direct to the consumer. It had been endorsed and recommended by W. H. Wahmuth, Chief of Police and O. K'd. by City Manager Hewes. After a general discussion, Mr. Latham moved that the matter be referred to the city manger and city attorney with full power to act, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried. A Bill entitled "A Bill For Ordinance No. New Series. Fixing the Rate of License Tax on Street Fairs or Carnivals." 7 A Bill entitled 9/ January 4th,l9l. "J Bill For Ordinance No. New Series. Providing that Proceedings for Reclassifying Use Districts or Zones May be Initiated on the Appli- cation of ohe person instead of a Petition." came up for passage and was read by the Clerk. Mr. Latham moved that the ordi nance be adopted, seconded by Mr. Probst and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. In the matter of the hearing on the abatement of a public nuisance at 1711 Broadway, the city clerk stated that he had just received a message from Building Inspector, E. C. Maillot that the building referred to, together with the barn in the rear, was now completely razed. Mr. Probst moved that further proceedings by the council pertaining to this property be abandoned, seconded by Hr. Adams and carried. Mr. Probst called the attention of the council to the ruts between the rail road tracks at the corner of Central Avenue and. Bay Street, stating that a short time aga owing to the condition of the street a young man was thrown from an automobile and seriously injured. He also stated that the same condition exist- ed in spots on the Webster Street roadway. Both matters were referred to the Street Superintendent for investigation. Claims against the General Departments amounting to 024 . ; against the Police Department amounting to $8813; against the Fire Department amounting to 0495.83; against the Street Department amounting to 1599,78; against the Health Department amounting to 074.71; against the Recreation Department amounting to 076.45; against the Store Fund amounting to 062.55; against the Relief Fund amounting to 063.95; against the Electric Light Fund amounting to 02948.75;against the Sewer Construction Fund amounting to 0166.62; and against the Police Relief and. Pension Fund amounting to 01485.00 having been approved and audited by the Proper officials were listed by the clerk as follows: General Departments.
