1921-04-26 Regular CC MinutesADJOURNED 7,GULAR MEETING OF TIE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMMA TUESDAY EVENING, APRIL 26TH, 1921. The meeting convened at 8:15 p. m. with Council-president Otis presiding. The roll was called and. Councilmen Adams, Latham Probst, Tilden and President Otis, (5), were noted present. Owing to the absence of City Clerk, W. E. Varcoe, on account of illness, Attorney, Wm, J. Locke, was appointed Clerk pro tem. The hearing in the matter of redistricting of property situated on the north- east corner of Alameda Avenue and Union Street carne up. A protest against the proposition alleged to be signed by forty-three petitioners living within the 600 foot radius was filed with the Clerk and read to the Council. Mrs. Weeks, and other protestants were then heard by the Council and upon conclusion of the hearing Mr. Adams moved that the petition for reclassification be granted upon the condition that the improvements contemplated be set back eight feet from the property line, instead of our feet, as firstproposed, seconded by Mr. Tilden and upon roll call carried by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen Adams, Lathai, Probst and. Tilden. (4). Noes: Counbilman Otis, (1). Absent:None. (See Resolution No. 379). The hearing in the matter of reclassification of property on the s. w. corner of Burbank Street and. Central Avenue cane up. A great number of protestants were present and all who wished were given a hearing. Several stated that they had purchased their property upon the understanding that no apartment houses were to erected in the tract. They called the Council's attention to the fact that there were only two vacant lots remaining in the tract, all the other lots having been improved by bungalows. Councilman Tilden moved that the petition for reclassifica- tion be denied, seconded by Mr. Adams and on roll call carried unanimously. A communication was received from City Attorney, Wm. J. Locke, relative tic) the legal status of the City Planning Commission. It was accompanied by a proposed ordinance providing for the creation and establishment of a city planning commission under the authority of the state law. Thereupon A Bill entitled "A Bill For Ordinance No. New Series. Creating and Establishing a City Planning Commission. was introcTuced and laid over under a provision of the charter. Mx. Probst called attention to the fact that the Southern Pacific Company had recently given notice that it proposed to disccntinue service of the so-called t?Horse... shoet train on account of repairs necessary to the Fruitvale Bridge. The council's particular attention was drawn to the fact that the notice of discontinuance is uncer- tain as to time. The matter was referred to the City Manager for further investigation. There being no further business to transact the council adjourned to meet in regular session, Tuesday, May 3rd, 1921, at 8 o'clock p. m. Respectfully submitted, City Clerk.
