REGULAR iEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY ap ALATEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING, AUGUST 2nd, 1921.
The meeting convened at 8 P. M. with Council-president Otis presidin
The roll was called and. Councilmen Adams, Latham, Tilden and President Ots
(4) were noted present. Absent: Councilman Probst, (1).
The minutes of the regular meeting of July 19th, 1921 were aprToved as read.
Mr. Latham introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 410.
Transferring M250.00 from the Sewer Construction
Fund No. 12, to the General Fund,
Street Department."
hr. Adams seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and on roll call it was ad ted
and passed unanimously.
The following was received:
Report of the Municipal Electric Light Plant for the month of April,192
Ordered filed.
The following communications were received:
From the Convention Committee of the Pacific Coast Association of Fire
Chiefs, asking the Council to send Fire Chief W. T. Steinmetz as a delegate to the
next convenetion to be held at Butte, Montana, and. Atlanta, Georgi a. After discussion
Mr. Tilden moved that it be the sense of the council that little benefit would be
derived by sending the Fire Chief to the Conventions referred to, seconded by Mr.
Adams and carried.
From F. J. CrolI, re assessment figures for the year 1921. Ordered filed.
5/ From the State Board of Health, requesting the city to send its Health
Officer to the next meeting of the League of California Municipalities. Irr. Tilden
moved that the City Manager prepare an estit te of the probable cost of sending the
City Manager, City Degineer, City Clerk and Health Officer to the next Convention .
of the League at Santa Monica, and report at the next meeting of the council
seconded by Mr. Latham .rid carried.
From Dr. E. M. Keyes, regarding- removal of trees in vacant lot adjoining
1725 San Jose Avenue, Mr. Latham moved that the matter be referred to the City
Manager, seconded by Mr. Adams and carried.
From City Engineer Hamilton, regarding expiration of time to pass upon
written protests for removal cf weeds, etc. Ordered filed.
From City Attorney Lock Auditor Croll and City Clerk Varcoe, re assessment
district on the proposed. Versailles Avenue opening. Ordered filed.
From Hal A. Curtis, requesting permission to hold entertainments and sell
patent medicine on a vacant lot in this city. Upon motion of Mr. Latham seconded by
Mr. Tilden, the matter was referred to the City Manager with power to act.
10V Mr. L. M. King, was present and addressed the council regarding the recent sale
by the Shipping Board of considerable salvage on Government Island at the extremely
low price of 0 000.0G, which included Ways and viarves, suggesting that steps be
taken by the council to preserve the trestle now connecting the Island with the mainland.
Upon motion of Mr. Latham, seconded by Mr. Tilden. and carried, the matter was referred
August 2nd, 1921.
communications to the officials of the Shipping Board.
Mrs. Stroupe, representing the Houowivest League, addressed the council and
requested that'a truckload of vegetables be permitted to come into the city direct
from the farmer for distribution to their members. After discussion, no action
was taken by the council.

Mr. Koetitz, representing the Tibbitts-Pacific Company, Contractors on the
North Side Sewer, addressed the council at length and requested payment, if possible,
for pipe placed along the sewer right of y but not laid. The request As denied.
13/ In the matter of the hearing on the delapidated building at 541 Santa Clara
Avenue, Mr. Tilden moved that the matter be postponed to the first meeting in
September, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
4) Mr. Tilden moved that every member of the Council who could do so should
attend the next Convention of the League of California Municipalities and at his
own expense, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.

Mr. Tilden introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 411.
Resolution of Intention, No. 61, I. S.
(VersaiJles Avenue Opening) ."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
Claims against the General Fund amounting to *1591.20; against the Police
Department amounting to $73.35; against the Fire Department amounting to $121.96;
against the Street Department amounting to *5079.76; against the Health Department
amounting to 76.54; against the Recreation Department amounting to 26.84;
against the Store Department amounting to 17;18.00; against the Relief Fund amounting
to c:141.50; against the Electric Light Fund amounting to $2076.84; against the
Public Use Fund amounting to $2050.94; and against Sewer Construction Fund amounting
to $16947.48 having been approved and audited by the proper officials were listed

Mr. Latham moved that the claims as listed be paid, seconded by Mr. Tilden and on
roll call carried unanimously.
There being no further business to transact the council adjourned to meet in
regular session, Tuesday evening, August 16th, 1921, at 8 o'clock.
