1920-03-30 Regular CC MinutesADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA TUESDAY EVENING, MARCH 30TH 1920. The meeting convenet at 8:30 p, m. with Council-president Otis presiding The roll was called and Councilmen Adams, Lath it, Probst and Fre ident Otis, (4)were noted. present. Absent: Councilman Noy, (1). The following communications were received: From Congressman J. A. Elston, in the form of a telegram relative to the closing of Harrison Avenue. The matter was referred to the next regular meeting of the council. From the California Process Comp Oomp y, reuesting a gratuitous license to sell devices for the extermination of ants. Mx. Probst moved that the request be graated, seconded by Mr. Latham and on roll call carried unanimously. 2. V' An Affidavit showing due publication of "Notice Inviting bids for the Construction of a fence at Washington Park" was received and ordered filed. The Clerk stated that in response to said notice he was in receipt of one bid. Mr. Latham moved that the bid be received and opened, whereupon the Clerk opeaed and read the bid as follows: Froth the Standard Fence Company offering to furnishafl materials and erect the fence complete, for the sum of 0.405000. 5. Mr. Latham moved that the contract be awarded to the standard Fence Company, seconded by Mr. Probst and on roll call carried unanimously. An Affidavit showing due publication of Notice to Merchants inviting sealed proposals for public Comfort Stations, as received and ordered filed. The clerk stated that no bids had been received, whereupon Mr. Probst moved that the matter be referred to the city planning commission, seconded by Mr. Latham and,carried. Mr. Probst introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: ResolutiOn No 286© Changing the Titie of the Janitor of the city to that of City Hall Custodian and fixing the Sale -0 Mr. Adams seconded the motion to adopt resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. Mr. Probst introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 267. Fixing the Salary of the Stenographer in the Street Departnient." ar. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanjmous v. / Mr. Latham introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: "Resolution No. 286. Declaring that public neeesity demcnds the Construction of a Combination Storm and SanitaaT Lr, -erobst seconded the notion to adopt the resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. ( ) C;) March 30th, 1920. Bill entitled "A Bill FO: Ordinance No. _ New Series. An Ord.teance Regulating the Sale and Trnasfer of Pistols. Revolvers a,nd Firearms in the City of Alameda and Pro, viding Penalties for the Violation Thereof." came up for passage. The matter was referred back to the city attorney for c hanges. 7. / A Bill entitled "A. Bill For Ordinance No. New Series. An Ordinance Authorizing the Leasing of Certain Tide and Submerged Lands to Lars A. Pedersen." came up for passage. Mr. Latham moved that the ordinance be adopted, seconded. by Mr. Probst and on roll call carried unanimously. A Bill entitled "A Bill For Ordinance No. New Series. Licensing .Amusernent Parks, f'or the Purpose of Revenue and Regulatien, Fixing the Rate of License Tax Thereon, in the City of Alameda.. " was introduced and ].aid over under a provision of the charter. A. Bill entitled "A Bill For Ordinance No© New Series. An Ordinance Authorizing the. Leasing of Certain Tide and Submerged. Lands to the Ralph Navigation. and Coal Company." was introduced and laid over under a provision of the charter. 8. Mr. Probst moved that the city attorney prepare an ordinance providing for tkie two-platoon system in the Fire Department, effective January 1stp 1921, seconded. by Mr. Lathan. and carried. 9. Mr. Latham moved that the city attorney prepare a resolution increasing the salaries in the police department according to a schedule prepared by himself, seconded by Mrr Probst and carried. Mr. Otis reserved the right to vote on the re s oIuti Mr. Latham moved that the city manger communicate conirni.inicate with the Southern Pacific Company with a view of Securing a boat having a larger seating capacity than is now used in the trans-bay service, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried.
