REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING, JUNE 1ST, 1920.
The meeting was called to order at 8:20 p. m. by Council-president Otis.
The roll was called and Councilmen Adams Latham and President Otis, (3)
were noted present. Absent: Councilman Probst, (1).
The minutes of the regular meeting of May 18th, 1920 were approved read.
The following was ordered filed.

Mr. Latham introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 306.
Transferring 4,938.71 from the Electric Light Fund
to the General Fund."
Mr. ADams seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call •
adopted and passed unanimously
The following communications were received:
From the Alameda Woman's Improvement Club, concerning construction of
sidewalk on the north side of Buena Vista Avenue, between Webster Street and the
Southern Pacific tracks; also, the need of swinginglights or signals at the
railroad crossing of Buena Vista Avenue and. Pacific Avenue. Mr. Latham moved that
the matter be referred to the City Man

5/ The hearing on the petition of E. B. & A. L. Stone Company for the formation
of a Reclamation District came before the council. Mr. Robert C. Porter, acting on
behalf of E. C. Henkenius entered a protest against the inclusion of certain lands
within the proposed district. J. W. Paramore appeared for E. B. & A. L. Stone
Company. I. L. Stone was present and testified as to the reason for the formation
of the district. Mr. Latham moved that the ter be continued to the next regular
meeting of the council to be held June 15th, 1920 at 8 o'clock, seconded by Mr.
Adams ,:, d carried. The matter being referred to City Attorney Wm. J. Locke
meanwhile.
6 The Clerk stated that there had been filed in his office on May 10th, 1920,
a petition signed by owners of more than twenty-five per cent of property within
a radius of six hundred feet of the property situate at 401-403 and 407 Central
Avenue, consenting to the re-classification of 4.t.id property from a Class 1 to
a Class II District. A. certificate showing due posting of notices as required by
Ordinance No.149 New Series, was presented and ordered filed. As the time set in
the notice provided for a hearing on this evening, Council-president Otis asked
if there were any persons present who objected to the proposed change. None
appeared. Estelle G. Lhevinne briefly explained the matter to the council.
Thereupon Mr. Latham introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No* 307,
Changing Premises Known as 401-403 and 407 Central Avenue
From a Class 1 to a Class II District*"
June 1st 4 1920.
The matter of the Crist Street improvement came before the Council. Mr.
Latham introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:

Mr. Adams seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it
adopted and passed unanimously.
In the matter of the closing of Austin Avenue and other streets, a protest
was filed by John O'Donnell, representing Suzzie H. Wells. Mr. Lat introduced
the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 309.
Resolution Fixing Time of Hearing." (Austin Ave. etc.)
Mr. Adams seconded the motion and upon roll call it , s adopted and passed unani
mously.
Plans and specifications of the North Side Sewer were presented by City
Engineer C. E. Hickok and on motion of Mr. Latham, seconded by Mr. Adams and
carried, they were unanimously adopted.
10// City Manager C. E. Hewes reported that he had interviewed the management
of Neptune Beach and that they had agreed to pay a flat rate of $500.00 per
year. Mr. Adams moved to amend the ordinance as originally introduced by
adding thereto the following provision:
"Provided, that the total aggregate amount of license
tax payable by any single amusement park in any one
year shall not exceed the sum of $500.00."
seconded by Mr. Latham and carried. Thereupon a Bill entitled

Repealing that Provision oOrdinance No. 173, N. S.
which Imposes a License Tax on Refreshment Booths in
Amusement Parks and Providing that the Total Aggregate
Amount of License Tax Against any Single Amusement Park
shall not exceed $500.00 in any one Year."
came up for passage. Mr. Latham moved that the ordinance be adopted, seonded by
Ar. Adams and on roll call carried unanimously.
A Bill entitled

Reclassifying the property situate at the Southwest
corner of Park Avenue and En c final Avenue, from a
Class I1 to a Class V District."
came up for passage. Mr. Latham moved that the ordinance be adopted, seconded
by Mr. Adams and on roll call carried unanimously.
12 Mr. Otis introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 310.
WHE S., on the 27th day of May, °' 920, the summons of
death came to William H. Noy, a councilman of this city;
and
WHEREAS, for more than two score years he evinced a
strong interest in national, state and municipal affairs;
and
dHEREAS, he served the City of Alameda as a member of
the board of health, freeholder, mayor and councilman,
showing in all these various offices a high degree of
probity and intelligence and a steadfaot fidelity to the
interests of the municipality; d

Mr. Latham moved that the claims as listed be paid, seconded by Mr. Adams and on
roll call carried unanimouay.
Mr. Latham moved that the council adjourn in respect to the memory of
William H. Noy, seconded by Mr. A 4 s and carried.
There being no further business to transact the council adjourned in respect
to William H. Noy, deceased, to meet in regular session Tuesday evening, JUne
15th, 1920, at 8 o'clock.
