1920-06-22 Regular CC MinutesADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING, OP THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA, TUESDAY EVENING, JUNE 22ND, 1920. The meeting convened at 8:15 p. m., with Counci1prcsident Otis presiding. The roll was called. and Councilmen Adams Latham Probst Tilden and President Otis, (5), were noted present. Absent: None. The following communications were received: From T. F. Rowlands, Superintendent Western Division, Southern Pacific Company, acknowledging receipt of City Clerks letter of June 16, stating the matter of swinging signals at corssings had been referred to the proper department for disposition. The City Clerk was instructed to follow up the same. From the City Planning Commission regarding the relieving of congestion of automobile transportation between east bay cities and San Francisco. After a general discussion Mr. Latham moved that the city clerk be instructed to invite representatives of the chambers of commerce and city councils of Oakland, San Leandro, Berkeley, San Francisco and Piedmont; the Southern Pacific Company and the State Automobile Association, to meet with the council on the evening of July 13th, 1920, in the council chambers at 8 o'clock, for the holding of a con- ference for the purpose of devising ys and means for relieving the congestion referred to, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried. A Bill entitled "A Bill For Ordinance No, New Series. An Ordnance Authorizing the-EFasing of Certain Tide and Submerged Lands to the Rolph Navigation & Coal Co.' came up for passage. Mr. Probst moved that the ordinance be Eidopted, seconded by Mr. Latham and on roll call it was adopted and passed by the following vote:u., Ayes: Councilmen Adams, Latham Probst and. President Otis, (4). Not-v-ot-ing: Council man Tilden, (1). Absent: None, A Bill entitled "A Bill For Ordinance No. New Series. Regulating the Parking and Control of Vehicles Where Signs are placed on the Street or White Lines Marked on the 2avement, and Authorizing the Closing of Streets During Times of Dangerous Traffic Con- gestion." came up for passage. Mr. Tilden moved that the ordinance be adopted, secondbd by Mr. Probst and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. The matter of the awarding of the contract on the improvement of Crist Street was postponed to July Gth, 1920, on motion of Mr. Latham, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried. Mr. Tilden moved that the city clerk be insiructed to advertise the sale of bonds for the North Side Sewer, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried. City Attorney Locke reported that the Alameda Chamber of Commerce had appointed a Commission of three, of which he was one, to look into the matter of the proposed city and county consolidation ; that a meeting had already been held with members of the Chamber of Commerce of Oakland and at that meeting a suggestion was made that onrinnil AlnmPan 11R armointed as a committee to meet that Councilmen Latham and Tilden be appointed as such committee, seconded by Er. Adams and carried. Claims against the Electric Light Fund amounting to 0807.18; against the School General Fund amounting to 0625.92 and against Municipal Improvement Fund No. 11 amounting to 1600.00, having been approved and audited by the proper officials were listed by the Clerk as follows: ELECTRIC LIGHT FUND.
