REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY DA
TUESDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 5TH, 1920.
The meeting convened at 8:15 p. m. with Council-president Otis presiding.
The roll «s called and. Councilmen A
Latham Probst and President Otis
(4) were noted present. Absent: Councilman Tilden, (1).
The minutes of the regular meeting of September 21st were approved as read.
The following were received:
City Manseris estimate of Budget for the year 19J1921, Ordered filed.
Corrected Budget for the year 1920-1921. Ordered filed.
Petition re removal of delapidated building at 2236 Buena Vista Avenue.
Ordered filed.
Mr. Probst introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 331.
Transferring $6,843.75 from the Electric Light
Fund to the Interest and. Redemption Fund."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.

"Resolution No. 332.
Transferring 1607.22 from the
Fund to the Genera. 1 Fund.

Mx Probst seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
6 / Mr. Probst introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
'Resolution No. 333.
Transferring $947.99 from the General Fund
to the Police, Relief and Pension Fund."
Mr. Adams seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.
The following communications were received:
From the Southern Pacific Comp ;y regarding the placing of flagmen at
crossings alleged to be dangerous. Ordered filed.
8 / From the Committee of Arrangements, St. Josephs Home for Deaf Mutes,
Oakland, requesting permission to hold a Tag Day on Saturday, October 30th,1920,
in the City of Alameda. On motion of Mr. Probst, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried,
' the permission was granted.
From Mrs. Lysbeth S. Mastick, acknowledging receipt of Resolutions of
condolence. Ordered filed.
10v/ From the Student Committee, University of California requesting the council
to take action in support of Amendment No. 12. Mr. Probst moved that the city clerk

e Student Committee that While the council personaily favored Amendment
No. 12, no official action could be taken in support of sane, seconded by Mr. A.
and carried.
From the City Planning Commission recommending the opening of Page Street
from Central Avenue to the water to a width of thirty feet qnd to proceed under
the Street Opening Act. Mr. Latham moved that the proper officials take the
necessary steps to open Page Street in accordance with the s estion of the Planning
October 5th, 1920.
"Resolution No. 334.
Fixing Compensation of the City Physieian. Re
Industrial Insurance.
Mr. Adams seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.
Mr. Latham introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 335.
Authorizing the Mayor to Enter into an Agreement in
Re Closing of Certain Streets in the West End and
the Opening of Adjacent Streets on New Lines."
Mr. Probst seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.,
Mr. Latham introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 336
Fixing and Classifying Funds for the Fiscal Year
1920-1921."
Mr. Probst seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it wqs adopted
and passed unanimously.
The application of Anton Moose, proprietor of the Alameda Baths, situated
at 448 Central Avenue, for a gratuitous license was, upon motion of Mr. Probst,
seconded by Mr. Latham and carried, laid on the table.
The city clerk stated that the matter of the hearing objection of Emilie G.
Cohen and Gustav H. Wendt to assessments, was upon the request of the city attorney
laid over until the regular meeting of the council to be held. November 2nd,1920.
The hearing on the protest of E. C. Henkenius against the petition of E. B.
& A. L. Stone Company for the formation of a reclamation district was upon motion of
Mr. Latham seconded by Mr. Probst and carried continued for two weeks.
The hearing on the protest of Suzzie H. Wells against closing Austin Avenue,
etc. was upon motion of Mr. Latham, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried, laid over
until the regular meeting of the council to be held November 2nd, 1920.
Mr, George Cerruti, representing the Alameda Scavengers' Association, was
present and advised the council that beginning with October 6th the garbagemen
would increase their rates, stating that if the council would not allow the raise
previously asked for they would call all t1. off the routes and refuse to
collect garbage. Thereupon a Bill entitled

came up for passage. Mr. Lat moved that the ordinance be adopted, seconded by
Mr. Probst and on roll call carried by the following vote:- Ayes: Councilmen Adams,
Latham,Probst and. President Otis, (4). Noes:None. Absent: Councilman Tilden, (1)
Claims against the General Departments amounting to $1946.37; against the
Police Department anounting to 98.90; s..ainst the Fire Department amounting to $247.67;
against the Street Department amounting to $2607.85; ainst the Health Department
amounting to $46.46; a inst the Recreation Department amounting to $210.86; against
the Store Fund amounting. to §RB-92! psrp, ;lip+ tho Poliag 1'nn nmirwlyvhinc. -En 4F.P.CIO.

Mr. Probst moved that the claims as listed be paid, seconded by Mr. Latham and
on rell.call carried unantnously.
There being no further business to transact the council adjourned to meet in
regular session Tuesday evening, October 19th, 1920, at 8 o'clock.
