The meeting convened at 8:15 p. m. with Council-president Otis residing
The roll was called and Councilmen Adams, Latham,Probst, Tilden and President
Otis (5) were noted nresent. Absent:None.
The minutes of the regular meeting of November 16th were approved as read.
Mr. Probst introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
'ResolUtion No. 349.
Transferring 1337.46 from the Electric Light
Fund to the General Fund."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.
There being a number of persons present in the Council chambers, Ireaident Otis
uspended the regular order of business and called for the hearing on the proposed
opening of Page Street Mr. F. V. Wright, who originally filed the petition for its
opening was present and stated that he had interviewed several of the large property
holders and he found no objection on their part, providing the assessment area was
spread over a larger district. Messrs. F. R. Neville, Dr. H. A. Miller, A. T.
Spence, Peter Hollings, T. F. Reichard and Chas. Linderman spoke against the opening
of EaF:e Street, stating that no possible benefit could be dervied from said opening and
that it was a personal matter between Mr. Wright representing the owners of the Marina
Court Apartments and Mr. Reichard, the owner of the twenty foot strip in question.
President Otis requested those in favor of the opening of Page Street to rise.
Mr. Wright responded to the call. President Otis then requested those opposing
the opening of Page Street to rise. All of those present with the exception
of Hr. Wright responded. Mr. Probst thereupon moved that ali proceedings pertaining ertaiaing
to the opening of Page Street be abandoned, secoiec1 by Mr. Latham and on roll call
carried unanimously.
The following communications were received:
From Frank B. Cornish, Chairman of the City Attorney's Association of
Northern California, requesting Alameda to join with other municipalities for the
purpose of investigating rate charges of the Pacific Gas Electric Company and the
Great Western Power Company. Mr. Latham moved that the letter be referred to the Board
of Public Utilities for consideration, with the request that the City Manager
report back to the council before any steps are taken acceding to the reuuest,
seconded by Mr. Tilden and carried.
From the Mayor, Auditor and City Manager stating that they had counted the
money in the city treasury on November 18th, 1920. Ordered filed.
5 From C. E. Hickok, Street Superintendent, advising the Council that the
work of improving Crist Street, a. one by Forrest E. Brown, under Resolution of
Intention No. 54, New Series, had been completed to his satisfaction. Ordered filed.
6 From the A1arnea Branch of the State Housewives League, commending the
council and. City Attorney, Wm. J. Locke, for their efforts in securing half fares
for children between Alameda, Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco. Ordered filed.
From Mrs, M. Risely, Chairman of the Committee of the Juvenile Order
of the Royal Neighbors of America, requesting permission to hold a Tag Day
December 7th, 1920.
The matter of granting Powell Bros. Construction Company, a permit to install a
travelling crane was laid over until the next regular meeting of the council to be held
December 21st 1920 and the City Attorney and City Manager were requested to prepare
a resolution permitting this installation,and also permitting the construction of a
wharf.
The matter of abating a public nuisance at 1711 Broadway came up. Mr. E. C.
Maillot, the Building Inspector, informed the council that this building was now
being wrecked and requested a postponement until DeceMber 21st when final action
could be taken by the Council. Mr. Tilden so moved, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
() 7 The matter of hearing objections of Emilie G. Cohen and Gustav H. Vendt against
certain assessment under Resolution of Intention No. 49, N. S. came up. Mr. Probst
introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:

1r. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.
The hearing on the petition of E. B. 8: A. L. Stone, for the formation of a
reclamation district was postponed t the request of Mr. R. F. Porter, Attorney for
the objectors, until December 21st, 1920.
12V The hearing on the objections of Suzzie H. Viells, against the closing of
Austin Avenue, etc. was upoh motion of Mr. Probst, seconded by Mr. Latham and
carried, postponed at the request of City Manager Hewes, to the next regular meet--
of the Council to be held December 21st,1920.

Mr. Probst moved that a meeting of the Committee of the whole be held Tuesday
evening, December 14th 1920, at 8 o'clock in the office of the 'City Manager, for
the purpose of discussing the proposed ordinances, seconded by Mr. Latham and
carried.
Mr. Latham reported that he had interviewed Mr. Jas. Tyson, regarding the

would do likewise. The matter was referred to City Manager Hewes.
City Manager Hewes reported that since the last meeting of the council additional
counts had been taken regarding the over-crowded condition of the 5:15 and 5:45 p. m.
suburban trains with practically the same results as iere reported. at the previous
meeting. The matter was left in the hands of the city manager for further investiga-
tion.
Claims against the General Departments amounting to 0112.67; against the Police
Department mounting to 0872.26; against the Fire Department amounting to 01516.00;
ainst the Street Department amounting to 01823.63; against the Health Department
amounting to 0188.03; against the Recreation Department amounting to 077.29; against
the Store Fund amounting to 077.34; against the Relief Fund_ amounting to 073.21;
against the Electric Light Fund amounting to 021,06,41 and against the Ready to
Serve Charge Fund amounting to 03775.13, having been ‘,.pproved and audited by the,
