The meetin convened with Mayor H.I.Toy,presid -0.
The roll was called and Counc ilmer Christensen,Walker,Krumb,Hammond,Spence and
Probst,(6),were noted present and 7ourcilmen Ells ,Morgenstern and Bullock,(3) absent.
The minutes of the meeting of June 20th were read and ordered *proved.
CouncilmenElls,:dorgenstern and Bullock arrived during the reading of the min-
utes and were noted present.
The City Engineer presented a certificate certifying that Michael nrphy had
Ipleted the work of constructinP: the South Side Sewer Extension and the Street
Superintendent presented a report that the said Michael :,1Urphy had done the work in
accordance with the plans and specifications under his direction and to his satis-
faction. Ordered filed and thereupon Er.Krumb moved that the said work be accept-
ed,seconded by Hr.Thlker and carried by the following vote. Ayes:Councilme- Chris-
tensen,Vialker,Krumb,Eammond,Spence,Ells,Morgenstern,Probst and Bullock, (9). Toes:
None. Ahsert:one.
Mr.Bullock offered the following Fesolution and moved its adoption:
FESOLVED, That the sum of One Thousand (1000.00) Dollars ,he and the same

hereby transferred from the General Fund to the Electric Light Fund, on account of Fire
Alarn,and the Auditor ar:d the Treasurer he and they are hereby directed to affect
the said transfer upon their respective hooks.
Mr.Christenser seconded the resolution and it was adopted and passed by the
following vote. Ayes :Councilmen Christensen,Thlker,Krumb,Hammond,pence,Eals,

Er. Bullock offered the following Resolution and roved its adoption:

A communication was received from the Iluilding inspeotor,reporting that a frame
structure located on the north side of 7ebb Avenue about 10C feet east of :ark
Street vas in a very delapidated condition and a serious menace to the surrounding

RESOLVED,That the Council of the City of Alameda,having in open session on the
h day of July,1911,opened,examined and publicly declared all sealed proposals and
bids for the following street work in said city,to wit: That a salt-glazed,vitri-
fied iron-stone sewer,six inches in inside diameter,with 4-inch Y-branches,and with-
out house connections,be constructed in Grand Street in a right line from the ex-
isting manhole at the crossing of Grand Street and Dayton Avenue along the center
line of Grand Street to the existing manhole at the easterly end of the South
Intercepting Sewer,hereby rejects all of said bids except that next herein mentioned
and hereby awards the contract for said work to A.La Plant he being the lorest re
ponsible bidder therefor,at the prices specified in his hid therefor on file to wit:

intention of the Council of the City of Alameda to order the following street work
to be done in said city,namely: That a salt glazed,vitrified iron stone sewer six
(6) inches in inside diameter with 4-inch "Y" branches and without house connections
be constructed in Bishop Street in a right line from the existing manhole at the cross-
ing of Tashington Street and Bishop Street,along the center line of Bishop Street to
the present manhole at the intersection of the center line of Adams Street with the
said center line of Bishop Street,and thence in a right line to the point of inter-
section of said line of Bishop Street oath the center line of San Jose Avenue;that
a manhole shall be constructed hereunder on the line of said sewer at the intersec-

RESOIVEreThat the publiceinterest and convenience require and that it is the
intention of the Council of the City of Alameda to order the following street work
to be done in said city,namely: That Fountain Street from the southern line of an
Jose Avenue to the northern line of Fillmore Street and including the crossings of
Adams Street and rashington Street with Fountain Street,be improved, as follows: That
the entire width of said street between said limits,from property line to property
line,be graded to the official grade ;that combined concrete curbs and gutters (curl
be eight (8) inches by fourteen (14) inches in cross section dimension and gutter
to be three (3) feet in width),be constructed on the curb lines of said street and
on the curved. corners of seid crossings between the said limits;that two (2) part-
circle,corrugated iron culverts,one with and one without branches and handholes,shall
he constructed., one on the eastern and one on the western side of the crossing
Adams Street with Fountain Streetand that two (2) part-circle,corrugated iron cul-
verts with branches and handholes,shall be/constructed one on the eastern and one

The Clerk presented two checks for 6 .25 each,rhich he had received from the
Park c Playground Commission with a communication stating that the same were for
rent of clubrooms by the North Cide Improvement Club. Mr.Bullock moved that
they be referred to the Park & Playground Committee,seconded by Lr.Hammond and
carried.
A communication was received from the Park C: Playground Commission regarding
their powers with referrence to employing help to conduct the work of caring for
the Parks. Ordered filed.
Mr.Hammond reported that the work of planking the Park Street and. Fruitvale
Avenue bridges over the Tidal Canal was progressing satisfactorily. That the Un-
ion Water Company had informed him that it expected to commence the work of in-
stalling its watermains in Alameda in about six weeks.
Mr.liammond and Y .Morgenstern reported progress in the matter of the Hetch
Hetchy alley water surely for the bay cities.
Mr.Krumb moved that the City Engineer be directed to prepare plans and spec-
ifications for the construction of a serer in the East End of Alameda,seconded by
Mr.Valker and carried by the following vote. Ayes :Councilmen Christensen,alker,
Krumb,Hammond,Spence,Ells,Morgenstern,Probst and Bulloch,(9). Noes :None. Ab-
ent:None.
Mr.Krumb moved that the Clerk he directed to invite the Park (e: Playground Com-
mission to meet with the new Park & Playground Committee at a date to be set,and
for them to turn over to the said Committee all books and papers now in the hands
of the Comm 0sion,seconded by Mr.Hammond and carried.
Mr.Morgenstern brought up the matter of the reservoir used by the Department
of Electricity and obstructing the roadway of Ray Island Avenue east of Park Street,
and moved that the matter be referred to the Street Committee in conjunction with
himself,seconded by ii.r.Probst and carried.
:.'ir.Christensen reported that the decorating of the City Hall for the 4th of
