ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THT COUNCIL OF TRF 0 ITY OF ALAMEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING, JULY 8TH, 1919
The meeting convened at 8:07 p. m. with Council-president Otis presiding.
The roll was called and Councilmen Latham, Noy, Probst and President Otis,
(4). Absent: Councilman Majors, (1).
The oath of o-r'fice of Brainard C. Brown as a member of the Board of Library
Trustees vice E. W. Maslin, deceased, was received and ordered filed.
/ The Clerk stated that there had been filed in his office, June 26th, 191 a
petition signed by more than twenty-five per cent of the frontage of property within
a radius of six hundred feet of the Clement Bonnemezou property on the south side
of Central Avenue, between Park Street and Park Avenue, requesting that said lot be
re-districted from a Class II to Class V district. A certificate showing due post-
ing of notices as requested by Ordinance No. 149, New Series, was presented and
urdered filed. AS the time set in the notice provided for a hearing at this
meeting, notice was given to all persons present to state objections, if any they
had No objections, either oral or written appearing, Mr. Probst introduced the
following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"RESOLUTION NO. 227.
Changing Lot Situate a on the South side of central
Avenue, Between Park Street and Park Avenue, from a
Retail District, Class III to a Garage District,
Class V."
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted and passed unanimously.
3. / Council-president Otis introduced the following Resolution and moved its
adopt ion:
"Resolution No. 228.
In Respect to the Memory of E. W. Maslin."
Mr. Latham seconded themotion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopt-
ed and passed unanimously.
4. / A communication was received from the Moore Shipbuilding Company, relative to
an application to be made by them for permission to dump dredged materials on the
city's tidelands, near the SOuthcrn Pacific mole. Mr. Latham moved that the matter
be referred to the City Manager, to report back at the next meeting of the Council,
seconded by MR. Noy and carried.

Mr. Lathan introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 229.
Requesting Congress to Pass the Necessary Legislation
so as to Provide that the Emergency Fleet Corporation
Shall Contribute its Just Share to the Cost of Municipal
Government."
Mr. Probst seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopt-
ed and passed unanimously,
Mr. C. R. Smith addressed the Council inviting them to attend the bestowing
of the medals upon the women of Alameda, who served during the late war, said
ceremony to take place at the Strand Theater, Saturday evening, July 12th. Mr.
Probst moved that the invitation be accepted, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
6. MI. Smith spoke of the launching ceremonies at the Bethlehem Steel Corporation
..t Which time the "City of Alameda" will be launched and a suitable banner given to ';A
July 8th, 1919.
// Mx. Smith spoke alo of allowing the Sanish War Veterans, Am rican legion
and Civil War Vetcrans the use of the City Hall as a meetinc, place. Mr. Latham
moved, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried, that the use of the City Hall be granted
to these organizations as a meeting place.
City Manag r Hewes brought up the proposition of allowing stated sick leaves
to employees and officials of the City of Alameda, as well as allowing the pay-
ment of the thirty - ve per cent additional not paid by the State Comepnsation
Insurance Fund, in case of injury arising out of employment. The matter was
referred to the City Attorney to prepare a suitable ordinance covering the
subjects
There being no further business to transact the Council asjourned to meet
in regular session, Tuesday evening, July 15th, 1919, at 8 o'clock.
