1919-07-15 Regular CC MinutesREGULAR MEETING OF TEE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA,
TUESDAY EVENING, JULY 15TH, 1919.
The meeting convened at 8:08 p. m. with Council-president Otis presiding.
The roll was called and. Councilmen Latham, Noy, Majors, Probst and. President
Otis, (5) were noted present. Absent: None.
The minutes of the regular meeting of July 2nd,1919 were approved as read.
The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting of July 8th, 191, approved
as read.
Mr. Probst introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"RESOLUTION NO. 230.
Transferring 07,413.74 Frm the Park Purchase Fund to
the General Fund in part Payment of Loan."
Mr. Noy seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.
V/ M±. Probst introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 231.
Directing the Treasurer to Transfer All Surplus Moneys
to the General Fund."
Mr. Foy seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unaniMously.
A Bill entitled,
"A Bill
For Ordinance No. New Series.
Amending Ordinance No. 144, New Series, "Establishing
Districts or Zones and Regulating Therein the Use of
Property, Height of Buildings, and. Required. Open Spaces
for Light and. Ventilation of such Buildings", so as to
Authorize the construction of Two-Family Dwellings or
Flats in Residence Districts of Class I."
came up for passage. Mr. Latham moved that the Bill lie over until the next regular
meeting of the Council, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried.
v7 Messrs. G. M. Glidden and Osgood of the Moore Shipbuilding Company, address-
ed the Council relative to a permit to dump dredged materials on the city's tidelands
south of the Alameda Mole. Messrs. H. F. Schlichting, representing the Alameda
Improvement Club, A. T. Spence and. Harry Masters, representing the beach interests
on the south side, also appeared. After some discussion, in which it was agreed by
the representatives of the Moore Shipbuilding Company, that the dyke on the south side
of the tidelands would be closed and that the dredging would be stopped if silt
appeared on the beaches. Thereupon, Mr. Probst moved that it be the sense of the
Council that a permit would be granted, seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
4. I/ Mr. Latham moved that the Southern Pacific Company be ordered to stop its
east bound cross-town cars on approaching Central Avenue from Eighth Street
seconded by Mr. Probst and carried.
v/ City Manager Hewes reported that the Southern Pacific Company had procured
the necessary right of way across private property for the construction of its
high tension lines and that immediation action would be taken toward removing the
same from Lincoln Avenue.
v/ Mr. Latham moved that the Council meet as a Committee of the Thole on
Tuesday evening, July 22nd, 1919, at 8 o'cloek in the Fire Chief's office,
seconded by Mr. Majors and carried.
