ENDORSING THE BURNS HIGHWAY BILL NOW PENDING IN
THE CALIFORNIA STATE LEGISLATURE AND CALLING. UPON
SENATOR BREED AND ASSEMBLYMAN DICKEY TO. VIGOROUSLY
SUPPORT THE PASSAGE OF SAIDBILL.
WHER_EAS, there has been a major controversy in the.Callfornia State
Legislature over a much. needed. h jrNay program for the State of California, and
WHEREA it has come to the attention of the Council of the City. of
Alameda that there has been introducer In the State Assembly a Highway Bill known
as the Burns Bill, which. embodies the revenue producing taxation. agreed upon by
the joint Senate-Ac•embly Committee, excepting In the matter 011 the as tax in-
crease, which has, by the Burns Bill, been set at one and one-half cents, and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda is recognized in the Burns Bill by the
inclusion of a hIghwaY leadi„ 7 from the City of Oakland, at a point in the
proximity of Seventh T IarrI son treets, to the City of Alameda, and through. the
City of Alameda along Webster Street to Central Avenue, Central Avenue. to linoinaJ
Avenue, Encinal Avenue to Broadway, Broadway to Otis Drive, Otis Drive to Bay
Farm. Island Bridge, Bay Farm Island Bridge to Doolittle Road, and thence easterly
along Doolittle Road to the city limits of Oakland, to connect with the proposed
Eactshore Freeway in the vicinity of San Leandro.

that it does hereby place itself on record as being strongly in favor of this

Dickey to give their most vigorous support to the passage of the Burns Hi7hway Hill.
