ADOPTING CITY OF ALAMEDA LOCAL HAZARD MITIGATION
PLAN, JUNE 2016
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda is subject to various earthquake- related hazards
such as ground shaking, liquefaction, fault surface rupture, and tsunamis; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda is subject to flooding caused by a combination of
storms and high seas; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda seeks to maintain and enhance a disaster-
resistant City by reducing the potential loss of life, property damage, and environmental
degradation from natural disasters, while accelerating economic recovery from those
disasters; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda is committed to increasing the disaster resistance
of the infrastructure, health, housing, economy, government services education,
environment, and land use systems in the City of Alameda; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires all cities,
counties, and special districts to adopt a Local Hazard Mitigation Plan in order to receive
disaster mitigation funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA);
and
WHEREAS, FEMA approved the City's Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, June 2016,
pending City Council adoption of the plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Alameda adopts this Local
Hazard Mitigation Plan, June 2016.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and
regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular meeting
assembled on the 18th day of October, 2016, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, Ezzy Ashcraft, Matarrese, Oddie
and Mayor Spencer — 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
