AUTHORIZING THE GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS, GOOD TIDINGS
FOUNDATION, AQUAFINA, AND ALAMEDA THEATRE AND
CINEPLEX LOGOS ON THE WASHINGTON PARK OUTDOOR
BASKETBALL COURTS
WHEREAS, the Warriors Community Foundation, in partnership with Aquafina as
their corporate partner and the Good Tidings Foundation, as the nonprofit project
management organization, offered a collaboration with the City of Alameda to fully fund
the rehabilitation of the two public outdoor basketball courts at Washington Park; and
WHEREAS, the Alameda Theatre and Cineplex initiated this project when it took
donations for the Warriors Community Foundation during the showing of the 2016 NBA
Finals and subsequently worked with the Warriors Community Foundation and Alameda
Recreation and Parks Department to ensure that these donations remained in the city of
Alameda; and
WHEREAS, the project provides much needed renovation for this outdoor public
basketball court that is heavily used by the community and youth programming at the
adjacent recreation center; and
WHEREAS, the collaboration with the Warriors Community Foundation, Good
Tidings Foundation, Aquafina, and the Alameda Theatre and Cineplex to rehabilitate the
Washington Park basketball court includes striping a Golden State Warriors logo in center
court and the Good Tidings Foundation, Aquafina and Alameda Theatre and Cineplex
logos on the side courts; and
WHEREAS, per the 2007 City Council authorized policy for naming City property,
facilities and streets, this is allowable under the criteria for a name that recognizes the
donor of a significant gift of funds for a City facility.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Alameda
hereby:
Authorize the Golden State Warriors, Good Tidings Foundation, Aquafina, and the
Alameda Theatre and Cineplex logos on the Washing Park outdoor basketball
courts.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and
regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular meeting
assembled on the 19th day of September, 2017, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Ezzy Ashcraft, Matarrese, Oddie, Vella and
Mayor Spencer — 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
