AMENDING THE BASE REUSE FUND BUDGET TO APPROPRIATE
$300,000 FOR A BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT LOAN FOR
FIREBRAND ARTISAN BREADS TO COMPLETE A RETAIL CAFE AT
707 W. TOWER ROAD
WHEREAS, in 2021, Firebrand moved into an approximately 40,000 -square -foot
Alameda facility located on W. Tower Road at Alameda Point; and
WHEREAS, as part of the original buildout, the production facility was designed to
allow for a full retail cafe fronting W. Tower Road; and
WHEREAS, due to increased construction costs and inflation, the cafe had to be
removed from the initial project; and
WHEREAS, the addition of the cafe will provide much-needed coffee, tea, and food
service offerings to Alameda Point and further activate the area that currently has limited
retail options; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has considered the report and recommendations of
City staff on the allocation of funds from the Base Reuse Fund and has determined that
it is both fair and appropriate; and
WHEREAS, this budget ensures that the City of Alameda has exercised prudent
judgment in its fiduciary responsibility as guardian of the public tax dollars.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda that
the proposed allocation of $300,000 from the Base Reuse Fund to provide business
development loan to Firebrand Artisan Breads is approved.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and
regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular meeting
assembled on the 20th day of September 2022 by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Knox White, Vella and Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft
