AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE REQUIRED
DOCUMENTS WITH THE OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS TO
ACCEPT $963,000 FOR THE 2024 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL
JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) PROGRAM FUNDING FOR
OPERATIONAL COSTS OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA COMMUNITY
ASSESSMENT RESPONSE AND ENGAGEMENT (CARE) TEAM AND
TO AMEND THE FISCAL YEAR 2024-25 FIRE GRANTS FUND (FUND
220) OPERATING BUDGET BY INCREASING APPROPRIATIONS BY
$963,000
WHEREAS, on June 18, 2024, the City Council approved a Budget representing
the financial plan for conducting the affairs of the City of Alameda for the Fiscal Year
beginning July 1, 2024, and ending June 30, 2025; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Department applied and was awarded an Office of Justice
Program, 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG); and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the grant is to provide vital federal funding to state and
local jurisdictions, enabling them to support a wide range of critical initiatives. These
include mental health services, behavioral programs, and crisis intervention teams; and
WHEREAS, the grant will provide funding for the City's Alameda CARE
Team (Community Assessment Response & Engagement), for the 24/7 alternative
response to nonviolent individuals facing a mental health crisis; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to amend the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Fire Grant Fund
(Fund 270) Operating Budget increasing appropriations $963,000; and
WHEREAS, the Council has considered the report and recommendations of the
City Manager on the budget amendments and has determined that the budget
amendments are both fair and appropriate; and
WHEREAS, this budget ensures that the City of Alameda has exercised prudent
judgment in its fiduciary responsibility as guardian of the public tax dollars.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda
hereby Amends the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Fire Grant Fund (Fund 270) Operating Budget
increasing appropriations $963,000.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and
regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular meeting
assembled on the 20th day of May 2025, by the following vote to wit:
