ADJOURNED REGULAR MEET ING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEL ,
FRIDAY EVENING, JULY 26TH, 1918.
THe meeting convened at 8:10 p. n. with Council president Majors presiding.t
The roll was called and Councilmen Latham, Noy, Otis, Probst and President
Majors, (5) were noted present. Absent:None.
1. Relative to the Ordinance providing for the holding of the election to
submit the question of the public utilities district to the People of Alameda,
City Attorney St. Sure stated that the Supervisors had not made their preliminary
arrangements and it was therefore unnecessary for the Council to adopt the Ordinance
on this evening.
2 . A petition was received from the Rolph Shipbuilding Company asking permission
to deposit dredged material on Government Island.
"Resolution No. 148.
Granting Rolph Shipbuilding Company a Permit
to Dredge Upon certain land Within the City
of Alameda."
was submitted, which after being read was upon motion of Mr. Otis, seconded by
Mr. Probst and carried, amended to include the following: "Provided, however, that
the permit herein and hereby granted shall in no way conflict with the terms
and provisions contained in the lease of Government Island heretofore granted by
the City of Alameda to the United States Fleet Corporation." Mr. Otis moved that
the resolution as amended be adopted, seconded by Mr. Probst and carried.
3. A petition was received from the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, asking for
the closing of the road across the southerly portion of Tract 32 and the south-
westerly corner of Tract 30, commonly known as the extension of Eighth Street.
The matter was referred to the City Manager.
J4. City Manager Hewes stated that it is advisable to have fire restrictions
placed on the property in front of the new Chapin Street entrance to the Bethlehem
Steel Corporation. It was suggested that the restrictions include in front
of the Barnes and Tibbitts Shipbuilding Corporation and other property. A Bill
entitled
"A Bill
For Ordinance No. New Series.
Amending Ordinance No. 123, N. S. Relating to Fire Limits."
was introduced and laid over under a provision of the Charter.
V 5. City Manager Hewes stated that he was in receipt of a letter from the Southern
Pacific Company in which the reason for the delay in the transbay service was given.
It is due to the run-down condition of the boats which prevents them from making
the necessary speed to conform to the schedule.
/ 6. A communication was received from Auditor and Assessor Croll, in which he
asked that the salary of the Deputy Assessor be increased to $125.00 per
month. Mr. Noy Introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption:
"Resolution No. 149.
Fixing the Salary of the Deputy Assessor."
Mr. Probst seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted

July 26th, 1918.
There being no further business to transact the Council adjourned to meet in
regular meeting assembled on the 6th day of August, 1918, at 8 o'clock.
