MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL CF THE CITY
OF ALAM DA, HELD TUESDAY EVENING NOVE.ii ER 19th,1918.
The meeting convened at 8:11 P.M. with Council President Majors presiding.
The roll :: :s called and Councilmen Latham, I\ oy, Probst and President Majors
were noted present. Absent : Councilman Otis.
1. '� Mr. Harrison S. Robinson, as attorney for the Rolph Shipbuilding Company,
addressed the Council relative to the closing of the streets lying within the
Company' s property. After some discussion Mr. Probst introduced the following
Resolution and moved its adoption:

Closing Atlantic Avenue from Street to
Mulberry Street, and Mulberry Street from
Clement Avenue to Atlantic -venue.
Mr. Noy seconded the motion to adopt the resolution and on roll call it was adopted
and passed unanimously.

Resolution No.
Providing for the Closing of Eagle Avenue from
Hibbard Street to Paru Street ; Eagle Avenue from
Paru Street to a point 354 feet westerly thereof,
and Para Street from Buena Vista Avenue to the
northerly end of said paru street,
which said streets lie within the property owned by the Alaska Packers Association,
was, after some discussion, laid on the table.
The minutes of the regular meeting of November 5th, were approved as read.
The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting of November 12th, were approved
as read.
The following was received:
.Affidavit of mailing notice of sale of real property in the City of
Alameda to satisfy assessments and liens for public work or improvements under
Resolution No. 43 New Series.
The following communications were received:
3. , From the Southern Pacific Company stating that it did not feel that there
was sufficient service to warrant the erection of a station building at the corner
of High Street and Fernside Boulevard. Mr. Probst moved that the Clerk write to
William G. pAcAdoo, Director General of Railroads, urging his co-operation to secure
the desired station. Seconded by x. Latham and carried.
4. Prom the Southern Pacific Company submitting an ordinance which would
declare the high tension lines along Lincoln Avenue a menace and requiring their
removal to Clement Avenue. The communication was ordered filed and the ordinance
introduced and referred to the City Attorney.
5. From the De Luxe Transportation Company, petitioning for permission to
establish service for the transportation of freight, baggage and express matter
through the City of Alameda. Ordered filed. Mr. Probst introduced the following
Resolution and moved its adoption:

was laid over for further consideration.
'.:r. 2robst moved that when the Council adjourn, it adjourn to meet in adjourned
regular session, Monday evening, November '25th, at 8 o ' clock. Seconded by '.ir. Latham
and carried.
'7s ✓ A petition was received from the residents in the ,iest End, asking the abate-
ment of the nuisance of mosquitos, which infest the district. The matter was re-
ferred to City Manager Hewes.
8s // Mr. Probst introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
Resolution No.171.
Creatin an Industrial Railway Fund and Requiring
the placing of moneys in said Fund and authorizing
the Auditor and Treasurer to pay moneys out of
said Fund.
Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was
adopted' and passed unanimously.
9. I/ Mr. Probst brought up the matter of publicly thanking all persons in the City
of Alameda, who had volunteered their services in combatting the epidemic of
influenza and moved that the Mayor extend the thanks of the Council to the citizens
for their support. Seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
10. / Mr. Probst also brought up the matter of constructing the bridge across the
estuary and moved that the Clerk write to the Board of Supervisors, urging that
they give this their immediate attention. Seconded by Mr. Latham and carried.
Claims against the General Fund amounting to 01881.33; against the Police
Fund amounting to 185.20; against the Fire Fund amounting to 386.31; against the
Street Department amounting to 01994.22; against the Health Department amounting
to 547.39; against 'the Recreation Department amounting to 428.02; against the
Store Fund amounting to 47.42; against the Relief Fund amounting to 047.50 and
against the Electric Light Fund amounting to 5 6,894.93, having been approved and
audited by the proper officials, were listed by the Clerk as follows :

call, carried unanimously.
11 . / City I onager Hewes brought uD the matter of bids on his . Report and stated that thus fax he had received but one bid. Mr. V.A.Gratin, of the Times-Star addressed
the Council urging the acceptance of his bid. No further action was taken.
12 . Mr. Tatham brought up the matter of the improvement of the streets, the
maintenance of which should be kept up by the Railroad Companies and moved that the
City Manager take up the matter with the ,'ilroad Companies. seconded by Mr. Probst
an: carried.
13. V City Manager Hewes brought up the request of the laborers in the employ of
the Recreation Department for an increase in pay. :r. Latham moved that their pay
be increased five dollars per month beginning the 1st of December, 1918. , seconded
by Mr. Probst and on roll call carried unanimously.
There being no further business to transact , the Council adjourned to meet
in adjourned regular session Monday evening, November 25th.
