1918-11-25 Regular CC Minutes 9 ADJOURNED REGULAR L ETIT ING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAM DA, MONDAY EVENING, NOVEMBER 25TII, 1918. The meeting convened at 8:10 P .M. , with Council President Majors presiding. Roll was called and Councilmen Latham, Noy, Otis, Probst and President Majors were noted present. Absent : None . 1. An Affidavit of Publication of the Notice of the hearing of the applica- tion of the De Luxe Transportation Company for permission to operate freight, baggage and exnress service through the City of Alameda was presented and ordered filed. Mr. George Mastick, as Secretary of the Company addressed the Council and gave the details of the Company' s business as proposed to be conducted. A Bill entitled A Bill for Ordinance No. New Series . Providing for the granting of a permit to the De Luxe Transportation Company, a corporation, to engage in the business of transporting passengers, freight, baggage and express for hire over the public streets of the City of Alameda, was introduced and laid over under a provision of the Charter. 2. V A communication was received from C. C.Kennedy, Secretary of the Con- ference of City Engineers and City Attorneys of the cities of Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda and Richmond, which was held for the purpose of considering joint action on the part of the cities to acquire and develop a water supply for the respec- tive cities. The communication included a resolution asking that a Committee of three be appointed to represent the City of Alameda. Mr. Probst thereupon introduced the following Resolution and moved its adoption: Resolution No. 172 Approving Investigation of Sources of Water Supply and appointing a Committee to Represent Alameda for such Investigation. Mr. Latham seconded the motion to adopt the Resolution and on roll call it was adopted and passed unanimously. Mayor Majors thereupon announced the appointment of City Manager Charles E. Hewes, City Attorney A.F.St.Sure and City Engineer Burnett Hamilton as members of the Committee to represent the City of Alameda. S. '' City Attorney St.Sure brought up the matter of the removal of the high tension power lines on Lincoln Avenue and recommended the passage of an ordin- ance declaring these wires a nuisance and requiring their removal. The matter was laid over until the next regular meeting with the request that representatives of the Alaska Packers Association be present to discuss with the Council the means of procuring a right of way through the Association's property on which to place these wires. 4. / City Manager Hewes presented bids from the Times-Star Company and A. Carlisle 8; Co. giving an estimate on the printing of his Annual Report. The Times-Star figures were the lower of the two and Mr. Latham moved that that Company be given the contract for the printing of 1000 copies at a net price of tir650.O0, seconded by Mr. Noy and on roll call carried unanimously.
