WEDNESDAY - - SEPTEMBER 11, 2002 - - 5:30 P.M.
Vice Mayor DeWitt convened the Special Meeting at 5:35 p.m. Marine
Corps Honor Guard, l't Battalion, 14th Marines presented the Colors.
Chief of Police and Fire Chief led the Pledge of Allegiance. The
Mayor's Administrative Secretary and the Public Works Director led
the National Anthem.

(02 -434) Resolution No. 13531, "Supporting the City of Alameda's
Participation By Honoring September 11th as A Day of Remembrance for
the Victims of the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks." Adopted.
Councilmember Kerr moved adoption of the resolution.
Councilmember Johnson seconded the motion, which carried by the
following roll call vote: Ayes: Councilmembers Daysog, Johnson,
Kerr, and Vice Mayor DeWitt - 4. [Absent: Mayor Appezzato - 1.]
Vice Mayor Dewitt announced that immediately following the Special
City Council Meeting, the City Council and the Alamedans Together
Against Hate (ATAH) would adjourn to the steps of City Hall for a
ceremony to spread a message of unity against hate in the
community; stated ATAH's "No Room for Hate" banner would be on
display over Park Street and Webster Street September 16 through
September 30, 2002.
Councilmember Johnson thanked the Alameda Police and Fire
Departments for participating in the Special Meeting and ceremony,
and for protecting our community.
Councilmember Daysog welcomed Alameda County Supervisor Alice Lai
Bitker; and reflected on the historic words of President Jefferson,
"Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty ".
Councilmember Kerr noted September 11 was similar to Pearl Harbor
because the country experienced a switch from peace and quiet to
horror.

Vice Mayor DeWitt noted the Worlds Largest Flag was unfurled at the
former Alameda Naval Air Station; thanked everyone for
participating in the Day of Remembrance.
Adjournment
Councilmember Daysog moved to adjourn the Special City Council
Meeting.
There being no further business, the Special Meeting was adjourned
at 5:45 p.m.
