AGENDA ITEM
(00 -102) Resolution No. 13187, "Under Charter Section 3 -15
Authorizing the City Manager to Enter into an Open Market Contract
for Emergency Repairs at Mastick Senior Center to a Maximum of
$175,000." Adopted.
Mayor Appezzato stated there was a fire at Mastick which was
contained to the kitchen and library area; there was also water
damage; Mastick is in operation.
Councilmember Johnson moved adoption of the Resolution.
Vice Mayor Daysog seconded the motion.
Under discussion, Councilmember Kerr stated most of the money will
be paid from the City's insurance pool; however, the City will have
to pay $25,000; inquired whether the Lease with the School District
requires the City to pay since the City is the tenant.
The Risk Manager responded in the affirmative; stated the City has
a couple of options; through the insurance pool, the City has
replacement cost coverage; there is also a provision in the Lease
with the School District wherein the District is required to pay
replacement cost coverage at a cost to the City; both options are
being pursued; the primary goal is to work as quickly as possible
to effectuate immediate repairs on the roof; 100 square feet of
open roof must be covered the prevent further damage; while both
avenues of repair financing are explored, the City will complete
repairs.
Councilmember Kerr stated the fire extended into the lobby and
library; rain damage is causing trouble; complimented Mastick
Director and Assistant Director for addressing the matter promptly.
Mayor Appezzato complimented the Fire Department for containing the
