APPROVING SUBMITTAL OF AN APPLICATION FOR STATE MATCHING
FUNDS FROM THE CALIFORNIA READING AND LITERACY IMPROVEMENT
AND PUBLIC LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION BOND ACT OF
2000.
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda is in need of a new Main Library facility in order to provide
excellent and up to date library services to our community; and
WHEREAS, the voters of Alameda have endorsed the need for a new Main Library facility
by their overwhelming approval of the Measure 0 Library Bond in November, 2000; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda wishes to apply for matching funds under the California
Reading and Literacy Improvement and Public Library Construction and Renovation Bond Act of
2000; and
WHEREAS, the procedures established by the California State Library require applicants to
certify by resolution the approval of applications prior to submission of said applications to the State;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council took action on this resolution at an open public meeting;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ALAMEDA that the Council hereby certifies and declares the foregoing recitals are true and correct.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby certifies the following:
A. The City will provide the local matching fund amount identified in the Library Project
Budget, as required by Education Code section 19995(a).
B. The City will provide the supplemental funds necessary to complete the project at the
level stated in the Library Project Budget.
C. The City will make available the local matching and supplemental funds specified in the
Library Project Budget when they are needed to meet cash flow requirements for the project.
D. The City certifies the project budget, as contained in the Library Project Budget section
of the Application Form.
E. All information contained in the Application Form and required supporting documents
is accurate and truthful.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly
adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular meeting assembled on the 21st
day of May, 2002, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Johnson, Kerr, and
Mayor Appezzato - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
