Aquacotta on Webster Street — AFTER • New signage is appropriate to the style of the building and calls out the name of the restaurant • The sign uses "halo- lighting" technology and has a soft glow at night inviting diners into this upscale Italian restaurant. Zoe) Dragon Rouge on Encinal Avenue - BEFORE • This complex of buildings received one facade grant several years ago — note replaced transom windows to the left. • The arrowed spot is the future home of Dragon Rouge Restaurant. Dragon Rouge on Encinal Avenue — After • A coordinated signage package including blade (hanging sign), windows and door was developed. Ni Sa Bula Gift Shop on Park Street BEFORE • Signage belongs to a former business — roll out awning needs refurbishing - paint is dull and worn Ni Sa Bula Gift Shop on Park Street - AFTER • New signage is now in place • The old roll -out awning has been recovered in a matching fabric • Paint has been freshened and matches Boniere Bakery to the right The Golden Bridge Drink Sign on Taylor at Webster Street — BEFORE • Original paint is faded, worn and peeling and the sign has lost much of its original color. The Golden Bridge Drink Sign on Taylor at Webster Street — AFTER • The sign has been restored, its original color returned and a coat of modern era UV protectant finish has been applied. Paul's Newsstand on Park - BEFORE • The Newsstand was covered up by redwood siding in the 1950s. • The building is not level; there is no signage to call out the name of this important Alameda landmark. • An electric meter sits on the back of the building, unsafely pulling power from the intersection traffic light. Paul's Newsstand on Park - AFTER • The Newsstand has been uncovered and the original lapboard siding revealed, repaired and repainted in historic colors. • The building is now level and sitting on a rot- resistant foundation. • The building bears signage on the roof top which was restored to the original roof line during rehabilitation. • Power is now safely and legally provided. • This year, the project was honored with a Pres- ervation Award by the Alameda Architectural Preservation Society.
