Ordinance 1098Ordinance No. 1098 New Series AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ALAMEDA MUNICIPAL; CODE BY AMENDING SECTIONS 17 -271 AND 17 -281 AND BY REPEALING SECTION 17.291 "I HEREOF, RELATING TO CROSSWALKS OR PEDESTRIAN LANES' BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUN- CIL OF :THE CITY OF ALAMEDA: SECTION 1. That Section ' 17 -271 of the Alameda Municipal Code. be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: See. 17 -271. Pedestrians' Limited Right to Use Roadway, When Within a :lousiness or commercial : district, no pedestrian shall cross' a. roadway, ,except. at a crosswalk or regularly: established pedestrian lane. In other. districts throughout the ; City, if there be no marked crosswalk, no pedestrian ,shall cross a roadway other than by a. route at right angles to the curb or by the shortest route to the :opposite curb. No person skull stand in any roadway, except in a safety. zone. or m a crosswalk; if such action . shall interfere with the movement of traffic. This provision shall not app1Y .to any Public officer or em- ployee or employee of a public utility: when upon a roadway : in . dine :of '. duty.: SECTION 2:: That Section 1.7 -281 of the Alameda Municipal Code bei :. and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec..:17 -281. Establishment and Marling of. Crosswalks : or Pedes trian Lanes, (a) The Chief. of Police is hereby authorized and directed to cause markers or white lines to be placed and maintained: along the boundary lines of 'crosswalks or pedestrian lanes at all such street intersections and other points where, in ' his judgment, there is particular danger to pedestrians crossing: the roadway, (b) Except at intersections, no crosswalk: shall be established in any - block which is less than four hundred (400) feet ' in :length, In blocks of greater length, not more thaia one (1) additional crosswalk shall be established, and such cross- walk shall be located, as nearly as practicable, at . mid - block, SECTION 3.: That Section 17 -291 of the : Alameda Municipal : Code be . , and the. same :is hereby repealed. SECTION 4.. This ordinance shall be in full forvu and affect from and after the expiration of thirty: (30) days from the date of its final passage. LELAND W.
