Ordinance 1193Alameda City Ordinances New Series Ordinance No. 1193 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE XVII, CHAPTER 4, OF THE ALA - MEDA MUNICIPAL 'CODE BY ADD - ING THERETO' ARTICLE 6, SEC- TIONS 17 -461, 17 -462 AND 17 -463, RELATING 'TO.YIELD RIGHT -OF- WAY TRAFFIC SIGNS. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUN- CIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA: Section 1. Title XVII, Chapter 4, of the Alameda Municipal Code is here- by amended by adding thereto Article 6, Sections 17 -461, 17 -462 and 17 -463, which shall read as follows: Article 6. Yield Right -of -Way Signs Sec. 17 -461. Yield Right -of -Way In- tersections. The intersections of pub- lic streets and highways in the City of Alameda hereinafter specified are hereby designated and established as yield right -of -way intersections under the provisions of the Vehicle Code of the State of California, and yield right -of -way signs are hereby ordered to be erected and maintained at the entrances thereof. Said intersections and places where such yield right -of -way signs shall be erected and maintained are as follows: (1) At the southeast and the north- west corners of the intersection of Sixth Street and Haight , Avenue. (2) At the southeast and north- west corners of the intersection of Everett Street and Eagle Avenue. See. 17 -462. Vehicle Entering In- tersection of Roadway Controlled by Yield Right -of -Way Sign. (a) The driver of any vehicle, upon approaching any yield right -of- way sign at the entrance to a high- way or intersection, shall not drive at a speed exceeding fifteen (15) miles per hour across such high- way or intersection and shall slow down and stop if necessary and shall yield the right -of -way to other vehicles which have entered the in- tersection from an intersecting street or which are approaching so closely on the intersecting street as to con- stitute an immediate hazard. (b) Said driver, having so yielded, may then proceed and the drivers of ail other vehicles approaching the intersection on the intersecting road- way shall yield the right -of -way to the vehicle so about to enter or cross the roadway protected by the yield right -of -way sign; provided, however, that the provisions of this section shall be non- operative at any such intersection when the traffic thereat is directed and con- trolled by an officer, flagman, sema- phore or other traffic signal device. See. 17 -463. Unless otherwise spe- cifically provided by said Vehicle Code, the signs required in this Article shall be erected at a height of not less than four (4) feet nor more than ten (10) feet from the ground and shall carry the mes- sage `Yield Right -of -Way" with letters of the word "yield" at least six (6) inches in height, and shall otherwise conform to the specifica- tions as set forth in the National Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways. Said sign shall be placed on the right hand side of the street or high- way at the entrance thereof into such street or highway to which the right -of -way is yielded. Section 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the expiration of thirty (30) days from the date of its final passage. R. P. KRANELLY Presiding Officer of the Council.
