Ordinance 2089CITY OF ALAMEDA ORDINANCE NO. 2089 New Series AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING TWO STOP SIGNS AT THE INTERSECTION OF MELROSE AVENUE AND MAITLAND DRIVE WHEREAS, upon petition of residents of Maitland Drive this Council passed its resolution of Intention to Acquire and Con- struct Improvements in the Maitland Drive Assessment District Local Improvement District 1982 -1; and WHEREAS, during reconstruction of said street it will be necessary to reroute AC Transit buses from Maitland Drive; and WHEREAS, AC Transit is willing to modify their route on a temporary basis providing stop signs are installed at the inter- section of Melrose Avenue and Maitland Drive to protect the buses as they make their turnaround to avoid Maitland Drive; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that: Section 1 . At the intersection of Maitland Drive, Melrose Avenue and Mecartney Road stop signs shall be erected on Maitland Drive at or near its entrances to said intersection. Section 2 . This ordinance is one of great necessity and urgency within the meaning of Section 3 -12 of the City Charter, is introduced and passed at the same Council meeting and shall be- come effective on April 7, 1982. Section 3 . The facts constituting the necessity and urgency hereof are: 1. That traffic regulations are essential for the orderly flow and control of traffic within the City. 2. That such regulations should necessarily be immediately effective on passage to insure that maximum preservation of public welfare is obtained. 3. That a potential health and safety problem will exist if such amendment is not immediately effective. 4. That, in light of such potential health and safety problems involved, the normal delay between enactment of this ordinance and its effective date would be injurious. -1- 5. This Council hereby finds, determines and declares that it is in the best interest and necessity that this ordinance be introduced and passed at the regular meeting of the City Council E held April 6, 1982, and that this ordinance become and be in full o force and effect April 7, 1982.
