Resolution 14758CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 14758 COMMENDING DOUG DEHAAN FOR EIGHT YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ALAMEDA AS COUNCILMEMBER WHEREAS, Doug deHaan is a native Alamedan who was raised in the West End of Alameda and attended Encinal High School, where he met his wife, Gail; and WHEREAS, upon graduating from high school, Doug deHaan was accepted into an apprenticeship program at the Alameda Naval Air Station and served on the base for over 36 years; and WHEREAS, in the early 1990s, Doug deHaan served as the Base Retention Chairman for the City of Alameda and later as the Base Reuse Chairman for the Base Reuse and Advisory Group, which developed the Community Reuse Plan for the base's conversion; and WHEREAS, Doug deHaan, also diligently served on the Alameda Point Advisory Committee; and WHEREAS, Doug deHaan was appointed to the City's Economic Development Commission on November 4, 1996 and served two years as Chair of the Commission; and WHEREAS, during his time on the Economic Development Commission, Doug deHaan worked on the Webster Street Strategic Plan and the Citywide Retail Policy; and WHEREAS, Doug deHaan was elected to the Alameda City Council on November 2, 2004, assumed office on December 21, 2004, was re- elected on November 4, 2008, and served until December 18, 2012; and WHEREAS, Doug deHaan served as Alameda's Vice Mayor from December 2008 to December 2010; and WHEREAS, Doug deHaan also served as the City's appointee to the Alameda Point Restoration Advisory Board, which helps monitor the environmental restoration and remediation process at Alameda Point; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Alameda does hereby express its sincere appreciation for Doug deHaan's many years of service to the Alameda community. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Alameda does hereby congratulate Doug deHaan on his many accomplishments as a member of the City's Economic Development Commission and City Council and wish him well in his future endeavors. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in a regular meeting assembled on the 18th day of December, 2012, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers deHaan, Johnson, Tam and Mayor Gilmore — 4.
