SUPPORTING THE CYPRESS STREET CORRIDOR TRANSIT
SUBCOMMITTEE'S LIST OF TRANSIT PROJECTS FOR
SUBMITTAL TO FHWA AND CALTRANS FOR INTERIM
FUNDING UNTIL A PERMANENT CYPRESS CORRIDOR
REPLACEMENT PROJECT IS CONSTRUCTED
WHEREAS, oh October 17, 1989, an earthquake of magnitude
7.1 caused the collapse of a section of Interstate 880 commonly
referred to as the CYPRESS STRUCTURE; and
WHEREAS, the collapse of this transportation facility
directly impedes traffic flow from the City of Alameda to San
Francisco and areas north; and
WHEREAS, a permanent replacement structure will not be
constructed for the next five (5) to six (6) years; and
WHEREAS, transit alternatives, including ferry service
and bus feeder service to BART, as described in the Cypress Street
Corridor's Transit Subcommittee's list of projects, can provide
immediate short -term traffic congestion relief in the Cypress
Corridor; and
WHEREAS, the Cypress Corridor Council Transit
Subcommittee was assembled by CALTRANS and FHWA to identify such
projects for consideration for funding;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Alameda
supports all of the transit projects identified on the attached
list of projects which were developed by the Cypress Corridor
Council Transit Subcommittee; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council authorizes
submittal of this list for funding to both FHWA and CALTRANS; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
transmitted to the Cypress Street Corridor Council, Metropolitan
Transportation Committee, the Port of Oakland Board of`3
Commissioners, CALTRANS Office of the Director, AC Transit Board
of Directors,
and Bay Area Rapid Transit Board of Directors.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 1st day of
May , 1990, by the following vote to wit:
