Resolution 12094CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 12094 COMMENDING CHUCK CORICA FOR HIS YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ALAMEDA AS MAYOR, VICE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBER TO ALL LET IT BE KNOWN that for his record of active participation in community affairs over many years, CHUCK CORICA has earned the affection and admiration of this community; and WHEREAS, Chuck Corica was first elected to the Alameda City Council in 1973, served as Vice Mayor until 1975 when he was elected Mayor for two terms, 1975 through 1983, was re-elected to serve as Councilmember in 1985, and was re-elected Mayor in 1987, serving through April, 1991; and WHEREAS, Chuck Corica is the second directly-elected Mayor following the electoral mandate of 1970, and served the greatest number of years of any Mayor in the history of Alameda; and WHEREAS, during his tenure, he established the following committees: Mayor's Committee for the Handicapped, Ad-Hoc Efficiency Evaluation Committee, Mayor's Senior Citizen Discount Committee, Mayor's Fourth of July Parade Committee, the Rent Review Advisory Committee, the Economic Development Committee, the Mayor's Transportation Task Force, and reinstated Alameda's Golf Commission; and WHEREAS, he has served numerous agencies, including, among others: United States Conference of Mayors Committee of Energy and Environment; Alameda County Airport Land Use Commission; Bay Area Air Quality Management District; President, Alameda County Mayors Conference; President, City of Alameda Traffic Systems Management Committee; Chairman, Alameda County Solid Waste Management Authority; President, East Bay Division of the League of California Cities; Alameda County Local Agency, Formation Commission; Association of Bay Area Governments0i Member of Alameda County Grand Jury, 1983-1984; and the Alameda County Transportation Plan Commission; and WHEREAS, he has encouraged and supported community programs and 3:-- patriotic affairs, and has received many awards, including, amongl!--7* others: Outstanding Immigrant from Italy Award from the-- International Institute of East Bay; Alameda Citizen of the Year - 1983; Patriotic Citizen Award from United States Army; Award from Naval Air Station, Alameda; Award from Naval Reworks Facility, Alameda; California P.T.A. Honorary Service Award for Outstanding Service to Children and Youth; Award from Special Olympics Program, Inc.; Fiorello La Guardia Award from State of California Order of Eagles for Outstanding Leadership in Municipal Administration; Alameda Elks Lodge Award for Outstanding Leadership in Municipal Administration; Award from United States Coast Guard; Award from College of Alameda; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Alameda gratefully acknowledges his dedication and contributions to the City, and recognizes his various roles in leadership, including co-author of the successful 1973 and 1991 Measure A ballot measures (Multiple Dwelling Units), successful co-author of numerous Ballot Arguments against local Measures, lead person in the re-establishment of the Ferry System, to name but a few; and extends its heartfelt appreciation for his valuable services in the preservation of this "unique" island community. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Alameda, acknowledging his energy and resourcefulness, does hereby congratulate him on his years of service to the community and extends its deepest gratitude for his many labors on behalf of Alameda. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Alameda, City staff, and friends and admirers throughout the community and the Bay Area extend to Chuck their congratulations and best wishes for continued good health, success, and happiness. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the sixteenth of April, 1991, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Arnerich, Camicia, Lucas, Roth and President Withrow - 5.
