Resolution 12153CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 12153 SUPPORTING REGULATION AND COMPETITION IN CABLE TV WHEREAS, the National League of Cities, United States Conference of Mayors, the National Association of Counties and the National Conference of Black Mayors are seeking federal legislation that responds to local problems with cable television; and WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to provide customer service standards, a meaningful franchise renewal process, additional competition provided by our local telephone companies to cable, and local governments' ability to regulate subscriber rates and service standards; and WHEREAS, Congress is considering legislation to set a national goal that by the year 2015 the United States establish an advanced communications system available to all homes, businesses, educational institutions, health care organizations, and other users; and WHEREAS, the economies of the United States and the City of Alameda is becoming increasingly dependent on the provision of services that require efficient distribution and dissemination of information; and WHEREAS, the rapid deployment of advanced communications infrastructure to every business, educational and health care institution, and home in America will fundamentally improve the United States' international competitiveness in the Information Age. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Congress of the United States is urged to enact legislation to move America forward into the Information Age of the 21st Century while protecting cable consumers by municipal regulation of rates. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the seventeenth of September, 1991, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Arnerich, Camicia, Lucas, Roth and President Withrow - 5.
