AUTHORIZ B0 THE -DREDGING OF A STRIP OF LAND FRO12 GOVERN-
MENT ISLAND, AND PROVIDING FOR A DYKE AND DUMPING GROUNDS.
WHEREAS, pursuant to a report of the Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors,
the United States proposes to dredge away from the southern side of Government Island
(so-called) in the San Antonio Estuary a strip of land approximately 150 feet in width
by 2300 feet in length, for the purpose of widening the channel on the southern side of
said island to a width of 720 feet from and parallel with the existing pierhead line on
the Alameda shore, and
WHEREAS, the execution of said work is contingent upon a condition that local
interests will construct and maintain a dyke across the north ahannel in Brooklyn Basin
and provide free of coat to the United States the necessary right of way therefor, and
suitable dumping grounds fcr dredged material removed during said work and maintenanae,
and
WHEREAS, on account of the uncertain location of the boundary line between the
cities of Oakland and Alameda it is advisable that both cities cooperate jointly in com-
plying with the requirements of the United States, to the extent of their respective in-
tereste, as nearly as they may be ascertained, and
'4NEREAS, the City of Alameda and its inhabitant, represented by the council
of said city, desire to cooperate in every possible way in the speedy execution of said
work and making said improvement, now therefore, it is hereby
RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Alameda, that said city pay its share
of the cost of constructing and maintaining such a dyke across the north channel in
Brooklyn Sabin as the United States authorities may require; and that said city will
maintain, renew or replace the said dyke, so that it will at all times effectively
carry out to the satisfaction of the Chief of Engineers, U. S. Army, the function
for which said dyke was intended by House Document #144, 67th Congress, and Session;
and be it further
RESOLVED, that the United States be and it is hereby granted a right of way
for widening the channel on the southern side of said Government Island, as is more
particularly specified and described in the first paragraph of the preamble hareof;
and bb it further
RESOLVED, that the United States be and it is hereby granted the right to
use said Government Island as a suitable dumping ground for dredged material removed
during said work and maintenance, to the extent that the elevation of said island may
be raised to the height of fourteen (14) feet above mean lower low water after aettling.
RESOLVED, that a copy of these resolutions te sent to the Board of Engineers
for Rivers and Harbors.
