PROTESTING AGAINST THE APPLICATION' OF TIL1 EAST BAY WATER COMPANY( HEREAS, the East Bay Water Company has made en application to the Railroad Commission of the State of California for permission to issue securities to the extent of 9,5C0,000 and incur an indebtedness for the purpose of constructing an aqueduct from the at Bay Municipal utility District to a point on the Sacramento River known as Mallard, AND WHEREAS; the plans of the East Bay Municipal Utility District involve the construction of an aqueduct from said District easterly which will cross the an Joaquin River and enable tha taking of water from that river in case an emergenny should become so great as to make such taking nacessary, which water would not be polluted ty the sewage of a. large city such as the City of Sacramento, ANL WEEREAS, the people of said District, by a vote of 81,119 to 31,998, have authorized an. indettedness of 9,000,0O0 to construct a pullicly oveoed water supply from the Mokelumne Eiver, and in all protability said -District will he able to bring in an emergency supply from the San Joaquin River as quickly as the East 'Bay Water Company could bring a supply from the Sacramento River, AND WHERMAS, under the circumstances, the expenditure of 0,500,000 by the East Bay Water Company for bringing in an emergency supply from the Sacramento River would amount to an economic waste and might result in imposing a heavy financial burden upon the people of the east bay cities, which, in our opinion, would te hIrgarranted, AND WHEREAS, the recent heavy rainfall has eliminated to a large extent the 6anger of water shortage which heretofore threatened the eat tnj cities, now therefore; be it RESOLVED, by Inc Council of the City of Alameda that, in view of all ths cir- cumstances and taking into consideration the recent heavy rainfall, it is tee sense of said col:leen that the application cf theEaot Bay Water Company for permission to finance and construct its proposed Sacramento River proect ohould be denied ty the Railroad Commission.
