Resolution 01845RESOLUTION NO. 1845. AUTHORIZING MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER TO TAKE NECESSARY STEPS TOWARD SECURING ADDITIONAL ALLOCATION TO CITIES OF MOTOR FUEL TAX. WHEREAS under and by virtue of the provisions of Chapter 767, Statutes of 1933, the Department of Public Works is authorized to expend annually from the State Highway Fund an amount equal to one-fourth of one cent per gallon tax on motor vehicle fuel within the incorporated cities, and the cities organized under freeholder charters in the State of California, for the acquisition of rights of way, construction, maintenance and improvement of State Highways with- in such cities; and WHEREAS approximately 66 per cent of the revenue derived by the State High- way Fund on the tax on motor Vehicle fuel is paid by citizens and residents of the several cities in the State; and WHEREAS tine allocation of the as tax made to the cities of the State under the existing law is an insufficient and unfair distribution of the moneys raised by said method of texation, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TUE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA, that the Mayor and the City Manager of the City of Alameda be, and they are hereby authorized and directed to take such steps as may be necessary to secure such amendMents and legislative action at the Session of the State Legislature to be held in the year 1935 as will result in an increase in the allocation of the tax on motor vehicle fuel made to the aforementioned cities to an amount equal to one cent per gallon; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Alameda join. and cooperate with the League of California Municipalities in any program which said League may adopt for the purpose of securing appropriate legislation in accordance with the intents and purposes of this resolution.
