RECOMMENDING ESTABLISHMENT OF BRANCH POST OFFICE IN TEE
WESTERN PORTION OF THE CITY OF 2LL-ED.
WHEREAS a committee was heretofore appointed by this Council to study and
report whether there be need at the present time for the establishment or a branch
post office on Webster Street in the western section. of Alameda, and
tiWiEREAS said committee has filed with the Council its report, dated March
2, 1.937, wherein it finds that there is urgent need, and recommends that a branch
post office be established on Webster Street, and.
WHEREAS it appears that business, and population has steadily and greatly
increased during the past years in the western portion of Alameda, and
WHEREAS it is reasonably oertain that the establishment by the Naval Depart-
ment of a Naval Air Base in the extreme west end of the city will result in a greet
and further increase of business and population in said section, and
WHEREAS the present post office facilities on Webster Street are inadequate
to take care of the present needs of the people in said district,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that the
aforesaid report of said (committee be, and is hereby, accepted and aTnroved, and that
the United States Post Office Department be, and is hereby, requested to establish a
branch post office on Webster Street in this City, and
BE IT FURTEER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this resolution be forwarded
to the Postmaster of the City of Alameda, with a request that he transmit the same to
the proper authorities of the United States Post Office Department.

duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City. of Alameda in
regular meeting assembled on the 2nd day of March; 1937, by the following vote, to
wit:
AYES: CounciLmen Calcutt, Meurer, Morris, Weichhart and President
Eschen, (5).
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
