AUTHORIZING PERFORMANCE AND COMPLETION OF
PROJECT FOR TEE IMPROVEMENT OE OTIS DRIVE IN
THE CITY OF ALAMEDA AND DIRECTING THE CITY
CLERK TO ADTERTISE FOR SEALED BIDS.
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda, pursuant to the provisions or Section 203
of the Streets and Highways Code, and the rules and regulations promulgated thereunder
for adminietering the provisions thereof, submitted to the Director of Public Works of
the State of California ite project for the improving of Otis Drive from the easterly
curb line of Mound Street westerly, to the westerly line of Broadway, approximately
1342 feet, consisting of repaving the present roadway, widening both sides of the street
four (4) feat; paving and constructing new curbs, gutters, gutter bridges, side-walks
end driveways; taking out present culverts and replacing with new, and constructing
two new standard Catchbasins, and other incidental work, and
019REA0, said project and construction work therein contemplated have been
approved by said Director or Public Works, and the moneys required to cover the cost
of said project have been allocated, and the exeanditure thoreof authorized and ap-
proved, and whereas a contract or "Memorandum ef Agreement" between the City of Alameda
and the Department of Public Works of Inc State of Califcrnia was heretofore jointly
executed by the City on February 16, 1938, and by the Department of Public Works on
March 2, 1938, and a First Supplemental Memorandum of Agreement was executed by
the City on October 0, 1938 and by said Department on October 14, 1938, and
WHEREAS, plans and specifications for the improvement and work hereinbefore
referred to have been prepared by the City Engineer of the City of Alameda and approved
by said Director of Public Works, and filed in the office of the City Clerk of said
City on the 5th day of Larch, 1939,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY ENE COUNCIL OF TEE CITY OF ALAMEDA that
the aforesaid plans and specifications be, and the same are hereby, approved and adopted.
RESOLVED FURTHER that the performance and completion of the work specified
in said project and in said plans and specifications be, and the same is hereby, author-
ized,
RESOLVED FURTHER that the City Clerk be, and he is hereby authorized and directed
to advertise for sealed bids for the furnishing of labor and material required for the
completion of said project and improvement, in accordance with said plans and specifi-
cations.
RESOLVED -FURTHER that not less than the general prevailing rate of per diem
wages and the general prevailing rate for legal holiday and overtime work in the City
of Alaueda, as heretofore ascertained end determined by this Council by its Resolution
No. 2322, for each craft or type of workmen needed to execute the aforesaid public work
and the contract therefor, shall be paid on said work; that Inc crafts and type of work-
men heeded to perform said work and contract are hereby ascertained and determined to be
as set forth on page 9 of said specifications, and said City Clerk is hereby directed
to set forth in said call for bids the aforesaid general prevailing rate of par diem
wages for the crafts and types of workmen specified in said specifications.
RESOLVED FURTHER that each bid shall he accompanied by a cashier's check or
a certified check, on a responsible bank, in a sun equal to ten per cent (10%) of the
aggregate amount of the bid, payable to the City of Alameda, to be forfeited to said
City as agreed and liquidated damages should the party or parties to whom the contract
shall be awarded fail to enter into a contract for the performance and completion of
such work or to give bonds, as required by law and by said plans and specifications,
RESOLVED TURTHER that such sealed bids will be received by the City Clerk
of the City of Alameda at the City Hall until Tuesday, the 21st day of March,1939, at
8:15 o'clock P.M. of said day. All bids must be in writing. The Council reserves
the right to reject any and all bids.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly
and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular
meeting assembled on the 7th day of March, 1939, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Councilmen Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President Weichhart, (4).
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Councilman Carrington, (1).
