AUTHORIZING PRELIMINARY ENGINEERIKG INVESTIGATION
IND ESTIMATE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SUBAQUEOUS TUNNEL
BETMEN THE CITY OF ALAITDA AND TES CITY OF OAKLAND
AND APPROPRIATING ;1,500.00 FOR SUCH PURPOSE
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolutions No 2135 and No. 2146, heretofore adopted
by this Council, an interurban Transportation Committee was appointed to study and
report upon a means of establishing adequate communication between the City of Alameda
and the eastern terminal of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, and
WHEREAS, said Interurban Transportation Committee has filed with this Council
its reports dated respectively November 1, 1938 and March 7, 1939 wherein it is recom-
mended that efforts be made to secure the construction of a subaqueous tunnel under
the Estuary of San Antonio between the City of Alameda and the City of Oakland, and
paralleling the present Posey Tube, and
WHEREAS, in order to accomplish said objective and to obtain the aid of
state, federal and other governmental agencies in the construction of such tunnel
it is necessary that an engineering investigation and estimate be made to establish
e definite location and probable costs of such tunnel, and
ITIERAS, the Supervisors of the County of Alameda agreed to finance one-
third of the cost of such preliminary en nearing survey,
NOW THEREFORE 3E IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAEEDA that
the City Manager and City Engineer he, and they are hereby, authorized to make jointly'
with the City of Oakland and the County of klameda the necessary engineering investi-
gation and estimate for the construction of the subaqueous tunnel under the Estuary
of San Antonio between the City of Alameda and the City of Oakland and at a suitable
point in west Alameda.
RESOLVED FURTHER that the sum of ;1,500.00 be, and is hereby, appropriated
from Contingent Fund 70-b for the purpose of defraying the City of Alameda,s one-
third share of the cast of such engineering investigation.
RESOLVED aCRTHER that the sum of ;1,500.00 be, and is hereby, transferred
from Budget Account 70-b to Budget Account 70-L and the Auditor and Treasurer are hereby
authorized and directed tc make the necessary transfers on their respective books.

meeting assembled on the 7th day of March, 1939, by the following vote, to wit:
