AUTHORIZING CONSTRUCTION OF SANITARY SEWER
ON PEARL STREET WITHOUT CONTRACT.
WHEREAS, the present sanitary sewer on Pearl Street running from Central
Avenue to the United States Tidal Canal is inadequate in size to properly carry
the sewage from the surrounding area and its replacement is necessary and in the
public interest; and
WHEREAS, the City Engineer has prepared a project, plans, specifications
and estimates of cost for the construction of a new 18" sanitary sewer of vitri-
fied type to replace said sewer and to run along Pearl Street from Central Avenue
to the United States Tidal Canal; and
Will-MA'S, the labor in performing the work of installing and construct-
ing said sanitary sewer and the necessary appurtenances is to be done princi-
pally by labor to be furnished through the rks Progress Administration; and
WHEREAS, in the opinion of the Council of the City of Alameda said work
of installing and constructing said sanitary sewer and necessary appurtenances
can be performed more economically by the City without contract;
NOW THEREFORE, DE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
that the construction and installation of said sanitary sewer, in accordance
with said project, plans and specifications, be, and the same is hereby, approved
and authorized.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council hereby finds and determines
that, in its opinion, the work of installing and constructing the aforesaid new
sanitary sewer with necessary appurtenances will be performed more economically
by the City without contract; and
BE IT FURTRET RESOLVED that said work and the installation and construc-
tion of said sanitary sewer be, and is hereby authorized and ordered to be, done
by the City through its officers and employees and as a Works Progress Adminis-
tration project.

I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was
duly and regularly introduced and. adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda
in regular meeting assembled on the 2oth day of August, 1940, by the following
vote, to wit:
AYES: Councilmen Carrington, Godfrey, Maurer, Morris and President
Weichhart, (5).
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
