REQUESTING THE DEFART=TT CF PUBLIC WORKS AND THE
CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO REROUTE PORTIONS
OF STATE HIGHWAY ROUTE 69 WITHIN THE CITY CF ALAMEDA.
WHEREAS, a portion of Santa Clara Avenue from Webster Street to Broad-
way Street, which portion lies within the route of that certain State Highway in
said City designated as "Route 69", varies in width between curbs from 42 feet
to 50 feet; and
WHEREAS, the portion of said Route 69 which runs along Santa Clara
Avenue passes through two business districts wherein traffic is greatly congested;
and
MEEREAS, Central Avenue and Encinal Avenue in said City are wider streets
than. Santa Clara Avenue and pass throaEh less congested districts, and this Coun-
cil deems it in the public interest that said Route 69 be rerouted over said
Central .Avenue aka Encinal Avenue;
NOW, TUEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that
this Council restectfully requests the Department of Public Works and the Califor-
nia Highway Commission, or other competent authority of the State of California,
to take such action as may be necessary to reroute said State Highway along Central
Avenue and Encinal Avenue in .he City of Alameda to the end that said State High-
way Route 69, when relocated, shall run along the following described streets:
BEGINNING at the easterly city limits (boundary line
between the City of Oakland and the City of Alameda) on Maitland
Drive; thence northwesterly and northerly over Maitland Drive
to Otis Drive; thence northwesterly along Ctis Drive to Broadway
Street; thence northeasterly over Broadway Street to Encinal
Avenue; thence westerly over Encinal Avenue to Central Avenue;
thence westerly over Central Avenue to Webster Street; thence
northerly over Webster Street to the southerly portal of the
Posey Tube.
RESOLVED, FURTUER, that a certified copy' of this resolution be forwarded
to the Department of Public Works and the California Highway Commission.

duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda
in regular meeting assembled on the 3rd day of March, 1942, by the following vote,
to wit:
AYES: Councilmen Branscheid, Howe, Tones, Maurer and President
Godfrey, (5).
NOES: None.
