EENORIALIZING THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES IN THE
MATTER OF UNDERTAKING AN =MEDIATE STUDY OF THE PROBLEM
OF MAINTAINING. IN OPERATION PRIVATELY OWNED SHIP
CONSTRUCTION AND REPAIR YARDS
WITEREAS, it is deemed to be of vital importance that privately. owned ship
construction and repair yards, sufficient in number. and well dispersed throughout
our country, be maintained in.. operation to service the ships of the merchant marine
and to form an inNispensable part of the mobilization. base required in emergencies;
and
WHEREAS, activities in such yards throughout the nation have declined to
the point where the organization.s and skilleb workers of the industry are being
rapidly dissipated to such a degree as to endanger the maintenance cii! a nucleus of
such a mobilization. base;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TEE COUNCIL 0 THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that
the Congress of the United States be, and it is hereby respectfully requested to
immediately undertake a study of thls matter, looking toward such action as may be
necessary to maintbin in operation such number of privately owned ship construction
and rebair yards as may be found to be necessary to properly' and adequately service
merchant marine vessels and to provide the required mobilization base to cope with
emergency situation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitte41 . to
each. of the members of the Congress from California and to tho Committee on MeuuKcat
Marine and Fiheris.
