MEVORIALIZiNG THE CIVIL KERONAUTICS BOARD IN THE MATTER
OF GRANTING TO TRANSOCEAN AIR LINES A CERTIFICATE IN
ACCORDANCE WITH ITE REQUEST FOR ITS OPERATIONS IN THE
PACIFIC
WHEREAS, Transocean Air Lines, with world headquarters at Metropolltan
Oakland. International Alrport, has been recommended for certification to engage in
flights to Hawaii and other Pacific areas by a trial examiner of the Civil Aeronautics
Board; and
WHEREAS Transocean Air Lines, as the East Bay's third largest inSustry,
employs some 2,000 skilled craftsmen wne are resieients of Alameda County; and
WHEREAS, during its eight years of operation Transocean has aerved with
distinction the nation's armed forces and civilian agencies, and through its pricing
policies saved taxpayers many millions of dollars; and
WHEREAS, curtailment of its operations would create a serious unemployment
situation in Alameda County, second largest in California;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OE THE CIn OF ALAMEDA that
this Council urges the Civil Aeronautics Board to grant Transocean Air Lines a
certificate in accordance with its request for its operations in the Pacific; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified ecoy of this resolution he forwarded
to the President of the United States, the Civil Aeronautics Board, to United States
Senators William F. Knowland and. Thomas H. Kuchel, and United States Congressmen
George F. Miller and John J. Allen-
